^ Sweet - have a CV synth. Might be kind of cool. It's funny how we're in the second golden age of CV right now - there are even iPhone CV clock apps these days.

Maschines are on a decent sale till the end of May. That studio looks nice but that price tho. I'd have to get a Push instead. Was considering maybe just the micro but that's still paying for a lot of features I don't really need. I just want backlit pads that I can script. The Push is attractive considering it's all done in script anyway so it's easy to extend and customize. I could do the same with an MPK261and launchpad though. I'll probably want to swap for the 261 regardless, so it's simpler to use what I already have if possible. The Push is essentially 16 drumpads overlaid on a launchpad anyway. You can script a mode that would make use of all 64 velocity sensitive pads for playing, but by default only 16 of those pads are used for drumming. If I want note mode I have a keyboard for that. It would be more convenient to keep the drum pads on the keyboard and have my launchpad off to the side for launching. Keeping performance and arrangement on their respective devices.

But what if Akai fucks the pads on the 261 a second time? :corncry:
Seeing as how they made the Push anyway, I'm expecting them to be at least as good. They're the same as the ones in the MPC Renn apparently, but then again the pads in the first generation MPK were purportedly "genuine MPC pads". I guess what it actually hinges on is whether or not they fucked the sensor implementation, not so much the pads themselves.

Haha, you're just playing. You know it. You're not selling the rhodes. Also bruther, I know you are about to embark on a career that should fill racks with modular gear in short time. Hang tight on that.
I've been hanging tight on that but I appear to be in a town where there are not a lot of opportunities to get your foot in the door and I have been sending out resumes for months. I just need a gig right now, any one because I'm catastrophically broke. I need to move, but I don't even have the money for that.

So I had to do it. I listed the Rhodes up for sale for $1200. I have one interested buyer. It is a 1976 Rhodes SeventyThree Mark I Stage Piano in pretty good shape. It needs just a little bit of work. The low E and F tines need to be replaced (I have the tines, they are the hardest ones to find) and two of the hammer tips are missing.

Anyways, in the meantime I have been studying hard. I have just completed my Security+ certification three weeks ago and I am about to sit for my Linux+ certification this month which is a two part exam. I did have an interview for a Junior Network Engineer position last week. I really hope I get that job.

Fuck man, sorry to hear it. But on further reflection - fuck the rhodes. It is probably more constraining than anything else.

Aren't you around the olympia area? I thought I knew where you were at, but I don't think I knew exactly. Pm me your details dude.

Standard! It's a very good mixer, eq's are nice for eq sweeps and the gain saturation is good!! Knobs and faders are good!
The only reason why I shouldn't buy them is because if you start too use more gear 6 mono/2 stereo & only 2 auxes could be limited!
But if that's allright with you... One of the best mixers you can buy imo!

Intended use will be for mixing the 'live' setup, so 707, synth (Volca at present, Minibrute later), 404, plus external EFX unit. Should do me well, plus I've still got an extra send if I want to run anything through the Midiverb/3630, as well as another 3 channels should I want to add anything else (Darkstar, for example)

Food for thought: I got my EPM 8 for the cost of a new EPM 6 (250USD). I got a like new mixer that was basically an open box. Used for one out of studio project and sold.

I like SoundCraft and I think the EPM series is probably the best deal going on options for dollar for this style mixer. Yamaha is has some nice ones int he price range as well. Also Allen and Heath Zed and ZedFX series.

The EPM 8 is solid. The sweepable mids let you EQ things pretty well. I use the stereo channels almost exclusively as returns for my FX. Though I have been finding that a lot of my FX actually sound better as inserts in the hardware world. Get yourself some tip/ring y-cables.

I like the pres, usable, I wouldnt say you can really push them. But the add some life to anything your run through them. I think any kind of moderate boosting ends up sounding great. Its not like digital, headroom gets ate up FAST. Been making some Techno ish, House ish, kinda live tweaking pre-programmed arrangements kinda stuff and honestly I think that the mixes just fall together and sound good on this mixer. Havent been worrying much, shit sounds good.

The channel mutes arent as usable as I would like, they are small, crowded next to other controls and unlighted.

I have also been using it as an analog space to design patches with multiple hardware synths combined. If that makes sense. I will sequence something with the Brute, Anode and maybe Der OTO or the Proteus that is meant to be "one patch" and I will EQ , pan, add FX all OTB, hit the pres on the mixer then the master hits the pres on the MOTU 828. Resample into digital.

Getting a lot of mileage out of it. My only bitch is that since with Maschine + 8 audio outs on my interface I want more mono channels. I could easily use another half dozen. But have decided I will just work with the limitations for now as I am saving for a Nord Lead 2x rack unit.

Basically if you are sold on the EPM6 being enough I say go for it. But I would recommend looking around see if you can get a nice used EPM8. Those channels go fast...

In a similar situation wub. Just got some scratch for the birthday. I'm debating between microgranny, or mixer, or both and a shitty mixer.

Kind of waiting for a mixer dedicated to our market segment, with more stereo channels. Most of my gear is stereo out... in this day and age ... blah blah blah ....

Let us know what you go for, and how you like it, and any updates on the microgranny.

What is your budget? How many stereo pairs will you need? Any aux sends? Submix groups? Channel outs?
