I knew you liked burial, which is why it came across as even more retarded

there is faaaaaaar more to ambient though than just burial and burial clones

fwiw though i don't think the whole skrilly thing is irrelevant

well now you're making more sense too :w:

I know there's far more to ambient than burial and burial clones, if you read back you'll see that I never said anything to the contrary...my attack was on the seemingly large amount of artists and tunes right now which are weak attempts at burial replication.
There's plenty of ambient pieces which aren't by burial which I love. Night Tracks keeps me up to date with a lot of that side of music. To be perfectly honest I don't like everything they post/release, but I do like a good portion of it, and they've introduced me to a lot of really great tunes and artists - for example, Kid Smpl and Ghostek.

I'd say my favorite ambient pieces are by Swarms and Stumbleine. I fucking love glo-fi/shoegaze.

P.S. If you didn't think the skrillex thread was relevant, why mention it dude? :?
"read it fully... bud"

I said I don't think it's irrelevant :dunce:

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but I'd actually agree

I always think it's interesting to see people's instrumental takes on electronic pieces even if in my opinion they don't work out

I really don't think that statement warranted a sarcastic eye roll from you, andrew

Sex shows with masterbatory theramins. Vocoder the o-tones of a moaning vibrato while midi converting dickslaps into a synth made out of used condoms.

Guessing they're talking about stuff like this...

Soundcloud

It's not as laughable as you seem to think. Fair enough if you don't like it, I can see why it might be a bit polarising, but I absolutely love this tune (was my tune of the year on my site). Compare it to the original, and it's like he's completely flipped the meaning of the tune. I've written a bit more about it here: http://night-tracks.blogspot.com/2012/1 ... -10-1.html (Sorry for advert/spam but can't be arsed to write out what is explained in there)

Should be some more ambient-fi post-grimewave coming from me and Sangam soonish. :4:

I love the unpolished sounding stuff like Ruff Sqwad more than most u fools on here, but also love shit like this that can take an acapella and completely recontextualise it. Strip away some of the attitude

Also, some people in here need to remember that there were plenty of people making downcast ambient music long before Burial....

Why? It's ambient (or ambient-ish) music with grime vocals. It's not a perfect name, but neither are a lot of labels. What would your suggestion be?
arktrix wrote: Tangerine Dream. Eno. Pole. The Orb, I could go on.
:4: This! If Burial had never heard Pole - 3 I'd be surprised. Swear "Taxi" has been sampled by Burial too. -q-

I've made some ambient stuff, and been called a Burial rip off haha, but if anything, my attempts at ambient are shaped more by Eno and Rhythm & Sound. Ambient =/= Braurauruail

Because to me, grime is not ambient at all, yes that link you posted could be called 'ambient grime' I guess although I don't personally think the vocals were particularly grimey.
Chill-grimestep sounds better imo
