Agree. The main guy and girl scientists really killed it for me.

WOW

Best film I've seen in ages. Never really seen anything like it and it's almost perfect too... utterly beautiful all the way through. The girl who plays the lead is captivating.

I watched a truly amazing Swedish horror film two nights ago called 'Let the Right One In'.

Image

It's about vampires but it's not tacky or cheesy. The characterisation is really great and amazing, the acting stellar and the film was just overall fantastic. It's a balance between childhood innocence and horror and loneliness. It's also directed by Tomas Alfredsson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

The american remake is actually pretty damn good aswell.

This is just a mad "film" just imagine Jackass but with FMX, BMX, sky diving, water skimming on motocross bikes and that will giv eyou an idea.

It's set somewhere in the Mississipi Delta in the near future where melting ice caps have led to the low-land Bayou being totally flooded. Levees have been built by the government to essentially write the area off as lost and uninhabitable, partially submerged and flooding more and more each day - everyone's been evacuated. People who refused to leave now live what they consider a more 'human' existance in what they now call 'The Bathtub' occasionally hiding from the government helicopters that want to take them to "safety"... building ramshackle houses, catching fresh catfish, eating dodgy old canned food, partying every night and teaching their kids how to build community and survive in the wild.

The film follows a little girl, Hushpuppy who lives with her (borderline crazy, alcoholic and dying) Dad in the Bathtub... it's really a classic Dad/daughter tale set in an extreme circumstance... plus a fair amount of echo from Katrina and a nice look at the difference in experience between humans functioning inside and outside of modern society. The "Beasts" title refers to a few things I think, but really the biggest theme in the movie was the Human as an animal... just another mammal looking for survival. The residents of The Bathtub are aware of their place in the world as a predator but also prey, the residents of the US are only aware of their place in society not even knowing where their food comes from or where their waste goes.

tl;dr It's quite a difficult film to sum up and occasionally confusing (I think it's supposed to be, since you're really seeing it all from Hushpuppy's mind's eye), but really worth watching. Watch it in comfortable company... I know I'm a massive pussy, but it made me cry THREE TIMES.

 not an option.

Its one of the best films ive seen this year although he ripped 2001 off a bit too much and it gets a bit pretentious at times.

I've seen it as well and I enjoyed it but personally I enjoyed the Swedish original better. Just had so much more heart and atmosphere, you know what I mean?

I saw let the right one in (swedish version) aswell. One of my favourite films i've seen. So atmospheric and . I saw it as a kind of sideways look at grooming- taken to extremes.
Spoilers-- ------------

the girl seems so sympatheticbecause we see it through the eyes of the boy, as someone grooming a young boy would seem. It was only in the last shot in the train carriage when i realised how far it had gone and how much she had manipulated botheh the boy and indeed me. Thats what i felt anyway..

End of spoilers

Just watched fight club for the first time. I already knew the twist as i've read the book but in a way it made it.even better. The scenes with Marla were handled really well, i can see why so many people rave about.it.

Arguably that's what the old guy was there for, and when he fucked up she simply got rid of him. That question of if she really is a child frozen in a 12 year old body or a manipulative adult mentally is never really answered which makes it that much more awesome.

Me? I honestly think that she did love him... though the extent of that love, as a useful tool for blood or a genuine companion is anyone's guess.

It's also worth noting that the vampire in Let the Right One In isn't a girl, but a
