Will Dubstep lead the Revolution?
Will dubstep lead the revolution? Nah - revolutions suck. First comes the overthrow - the carnival, a few rays of hope. Then the terror, the clampdown the return to the status quo - often worse certainly not better than the original situation. Read your history - seen

The Glorious Revolution, the American Revolution, the establishment of the Han dynasty, the Mexican Revolution against Spain, the July Revolution, the Velvet revolution - just a few historical examples that go against your model.numaestro wrote:Will dubstep lead the revolution? as far as it hitting the Bourgeoise. I'm just hoping won't be a day where you go into the gap w/ your younger cousin and hear "midnight request line" doesn't happen. I remember thinking that the future cut rmx of "shake your body," was still dark and gritty... nah it wouldn't make it over. Well did anyone ever walkinto a gap in the Fall of 2002?

there's a difference b/t commercialism and straight hatin' on ppl that support the scene you do.
P.S.
I do not in any way applaud shopping at the Gap.

Yes they were all revolutions against tyrannical dictatorships/autocracies/oligarchies. Not revolutions against democracy.MacPhellimey wrote:The Glorious Revolution, the American Revolution, the establishment of the Han dynasty, the Mexican Revolution against Spain, the July Revolution, the Velvet revolution - just a few historical examples that go against your model.numaestro wrote:Will dubstep lead the revolution? no offence but thats bolloks. all musical movements are representetive of a collective state of mind. if a state of mind is revolutionary in its own right then the music it creates will be exactly that. if not dubstep, then itll be something elsemetalboxproducts wrote:comparing a genre of music to a social revolution is a bit crass mate.
everyone listen to this dude he knows wot the fuck is up! thats all from me tonight finally lolDarkfireDub wrote:'The revolution will not be televised..it'll be broadband broadcast worldwide...'
all changes in the world manifest because of personal transformation in people's hearts...if the music can heal inner conflicts and help us integrate our personalities and be inspired creatively it can help bring change...
also the dubstep network is invisible and under the radar, also those people creating it are pretty much on the cultural cutting edge, in terms of innovation and sound technology...sound creates and alters physical form and reality, so those that control the sound can transform our experience of the world...also anything done from love carries the vibration and transmits it, 'the fire ignites other torches yet the flame is not diminished'
revolution is evolution, nothing happens overnight but natural laws dictate cycles throughout time, we ultimately don't control reality, it exists independently of us and we just ride the wave...dubstep is the cultural expression of future consciousness, a dimension of sound based on inner-hearing and physical feeling, a tribal trance-dance that allows the spirit to flow
dub has always been strongly spiritual, political, revolutionary and tribal
'rebel music' for the ghetto youth, a form of worship and spiritual practice
'to meditate on bass weight', revolution won't come from violent explosive action in the world, but subtle changes in the inner world, the reclaiming of our own 'headspace', conscious realisaton of higher truth
be the change that you want to see in the world and through positive intention you can make it happen
'don't follow the trends follow the vibe, it's the vibe not the trends that keep us alive'
bless, peaceout

Basically we're living in a post-democratic state with the stage set for full blown fascism...but a violent revolution would only cause more repressive tactics to be used on the people (eg. Burma, China, France, G8 protests)
the government ignored the will of the people in invading Iraq and Afghanistan and are trying to stimulate trouble and unrest in society (eg. Muslims vs. Christians) with fake-terror alerts and attacks like 7/7...mainly to divide us and also to bring in the Big Brother surveillance police state...ID cards, microchip implants, biometric database etc...
the economy is in freefall with recession biting...unemployment and shut down shop units everywhere...TV and popular music has become purely mindless brainwashing and distraction...the powers-that-be are worried and are trying to control any 'revolutionary' movements...
so hopefully dubstep will succeed because it's under their radar and unable to be subverted!
but did you know that they have military installations and underground bases that will be like concentration camps for ordinary citizens?
that we'll be asked to accept a microchip tracker implant in exchange for essential good and services?
that we are only few days away from starvation if food supplies are cut short?
that there will inevitably be a day soon that the garages and supermarkets closed, cashpoints out of order, credit cards declined, no mobile signals...maybe no internet
Films like V For Vendetta, 28 Days Later, Matrix, I Am Legend, Mad Max, Twelve Monkeys etc all deal with these themes and scenarios...
so yeah, the evolution is mental/spiritual
the revolution in real world terms would be...
-non-payment of all taxes and rent
-giving up all unecessary work
-investing any money in equipment (generators, vehicles, soundsystems!)
-reclaiming disused spaces and derelict properties
-stockpiling essential food and resources
-planting gardens and allotments (seeds are the most valuable commodity)
-building communities of like-minded people
-discussion groups, workshops, meetings etc.
basically everything that travellers and squatters have been doing for years The Criminal Justice Bill tried to stamp it out, as authorities know self-organisation and existence 'outside the system' is the real threat.
I agree that dubstep is the only innovative and inspiring movement in a cultural wasteland...but when all else falls, will it still be left
standing? Has it got the long-term vision of building a better world through music? Does it acknowledge the legacy and spiritual vision of dub?
Is it built on sand or rock...
knowledge is power

dude, i pretty much agree with what you say it's upon us, obvious signs are everywhere, but involving dubstep in this is childish!
unfortunately, dubstep is just the music we love so much, but it carries no strong message so far. it's just quality entertainment that sometimes transcends this status, and when it does most often is oriented to the inner reality, not the outer one.
so spread the word, but don't count on the dubstep scene to light up anything (i'll be happy to be proven wrong about this).
and anyway, communities are good just to be confiscated through corrupted leadership, individual action is the key nowadays.
close this nonsensic thread, if you ask me!

The best dubstep around at the moment seems to express the darkness of the times perfectly, the anticipation and tension of what's to come...the sadness for what's happened to the world...the deeper levels of consciousness being explored...the pulsating hidden energy in everything...stillness in meditation...the long dark night of the soul...storm clouds brewing on the horizon...soundtracks to the end time
esp. Distance - My Demons and Burial's albums, like emotional hymns to a fallen city, ghosts haunting an abandoned metropolis and distant voices echoing in the air...amazing stuff
also the 'Ghosts Of My Life' mix by OCR is a mind-blowing journey, dead of night bizness, big up the Cornwall crew!
