it annoys me when a dj starts cutting before locking a mix in, so they miss key notes and the tracks sound slightly off.

i had a mix cd someone left in a vinyl shop. EVERY MIX was chopped, and most double dropped... i should dig it out as a 'what not to do'. Yeah show off your skills, but like using effects in mixes.... dont over do it

What does everyone think of Serato 2.0?

Just wanted to share my experience of learning to dj, which has either been 1 or 2 years in the making (its all a blur!).

I was initially getting very frustrated just clanging away between tunes for a few months but it paid off, rather than a steady learning curve one day it just seemed to click, obviously didn't become mr superstar dj overnight but I just started to hear it.

I'd say its 80-90% training your ear when learning to beat-match, learning to seperate the tunes in your head, assess whether its too far behind or forward and at what speed its going of sync.

I've now switched over from touching the platter to riding the pitch, just as it makes a mix sound smoother and I believe more accurate, this is a process I am still perfecting. I'm no N-Type or Youngsta, and that is what I'm stuck on now, I can hear when its out but not quick enough (or maybe I'm just not patient enough when matching in the headphones?) just to keep it perfectly synced throughout the mixing process. It will always be danceable but just bit off here and there, this is not acceptable! I do not understand how the big names can just keep it locked throughout, its as if they peer into their crystal ball perched under the decks and forsee when it will go out. Where does one purchase this crystal ball? Anyway I'm rambling, enjoy my lulzy representation of my interpretation of the dj learning curve:

I am still not quite convinced it is worth the sticker price. I actually had the opportunity to get it at cost and it was still too expensive! They are really gouging everyone including the stores. I can't imagine those boxes cost all that much for them to make?

i got audacity but it doesnt seem to be picking up my mixer if that makes sense?? i tryed like 3 months ago and it just wasnt picking any music up so i gave up lol :/

I only got into production through DJing, I haven't been doing it much recently but gearwise I've got: 2 Numark 1650s and a Numark M2 Mixer and an M-Audio MIDI mixer which I occasionally use through the mic input

Make sure you have got it going into the right port on your computer - the line in. Go into your computer audio settings for recoring and make sure the box below the line in is ticked.
