Re: DSF VSTi Contest #1!
Good idea this. A better one would be a comp to CREATE a dubstep specific vst!

Re: DSF VSTi Contest #1!
i can't imagine why anyone would want such a limited use vst. nor how any sound is dubstep specific. i assume you mean something that will create brostep wobbles at the touch of a button.ResetTheAtari wrote:dubstep specific vst
we could all use brutal electro, or we can actually work towards moving the sound forward.

I thought earlier today it might work as a comp to have people use their favoured synth to make a track, whatever effects etc they want would be fine but NO samples or resampling. Everything would have to be made with that one synth, drums and incidentals included. Then when you export your tune you put the name of the synth you used in the title so people can see what synths were used to make which tunes.
Anyone like the sounds of that or have we got too many types of comp on here already??
Re: DSF VSTi Contest #1!
not long now, can't wait to hear what you have all come up with.

Re: DSF VSTi Contest #1!
There are actually a set of dubstep specific vstis out there, made by a guy on here I do believe. Resonance, Skyscraper, itchy... I use resonance all the time, it's ace.

Re: DSF VSTi Contest #1!
Hey all - you have about 12 more hours if you haven't submitted your tune yet. I'm really pleased with how many submissions there are - not to mention the quality and variety. I think sometimes we're pretty hard on ourselves, but in the end it's good that we have high standards.
To those that experienced technical hangups - sorry to hear it. I'm all for aiming for a more universally stable VSTi (although fwiw my piece of shit ancient PC managed just fine) ...as long as it's not a big fat bloatsynth that snorts up your CPU like a fiend. I was also able to coax a pretty broad variety of sounds out of Elek7ro, more than I would've thought initially - and I've used it quite a bit in the past. I found the most mileage from the combination of Elek7ro plus the EQ plug, then the other DSP fx. Automation was a little clunky but I learned A WHOLE FUCKIN' LOT about what this synth is and isn't capable of, and my opinion of it as a pretty decent tool remains unchanged.
re: Making it so the contest features Mac-friendly plugs - I have mixed feelings about that. First of all it limits the number of options significantly; second, while I don't have any problem with Macs and the people who use 'em exclusively, as stated earlier - this is the trade-off you make when buying a Mac - this is a byproduct of their code sharing policies, not the deliberate exclusionary design of the VST-using community of musicians. IF we can find a basic DSP pack that's good (as good or better than the Kjaerhus, anyway) that's available for both platforms that's fine. If not, though... Oh well.
Alright, I'm gonna shut up now and get back to work - I've been on vacation the last couple weeks and have some catching up to do, but get your submissions in by midnight PST tonight if you haven't already and keep your eyes on this space for the tune post-up and voting!

Yeah, and I just realized I can't post 'em all up until they're all in, and I'll probably be snoozing by then, so... tomorrow.
