Video Memory: 512 MB
Yeah.... sure, you *could* run it but to get at a good fps you're looking at twice that with all the DX11 goodies. This is the crunch!

There's a lad on a clan I play with who plays BC2 in 3D :6:

I would love to see someone run BF3 on a 256MB graphics card.

You're going to need at least a £300 graphics card to run it at a good hi-res in HD.

I need to buy a new case and CPU to accommodate that card!

This is entirely dependent on mod capabilities though. If devs start shipping identical PC/PS3/360 releases in terms of everything except graphics; PC gaming will lose its advantage very very quickly.

Looking forward to BF3 anyway. I'll definitely be getting it on PS3 now considering there's no mod tools.
why? it's even been shown it runs at lower fps and dumbed down graphics. the game was designed for pcs first for a welcoming change
Fuck graphics, and fuck 60fps. Goldeneye is still the best first person shooter because it has the best gameplay. I'm sure they're not going to scale down the gameplay for consoles, so it's going to be exactly the same experience.
I could buy another PS3 and LAN myself for the same price it'd cost to upgrade my PC to get the game looking as good as it will on PS3.
Like I said, no mods (yet) so there's absolutely no point in getting it for PC anyway unless you're a graphics fiend, which I'm not. I have to squint to read the writing on my mixer when I'm DJing...that's how bad my eyesight is. Fuck graphics!

I agree it's not about graphics. Most titles since the likes of Goldeneye came out have been the same thing rehashed with better graphics.

HERE IS ANOTHER FPS SET IN <WW2 / Zombies / Science lab / apocalyptic future > YOU MUST STACK CRATES AND BOXES TO GAIN ACCESS TO LADDERS AND PLATFORMS. YOU WILL THEN RUN THROUGH CORRIDORS AND OCCASIONAL OPEN AREAS WHERE YOU SHOOT <sizan / Arabs / Russians / Zombies / Aliens / Monsters> UNTIL THERE'S A WEAK ENDING.

you really think goldeneye is still the best fps ever ? don't get me wrong it's insanely good, but the best on any platform?

also the gameplay in fps games changes completely as soon as it's on the console.. fuck aiming with an analog stick and getting random achievements for running 5m without falling down or whatever

I can't think of a game which has nailed multiplayer FPS, same room or not, better than Goldeneye.
The level design is absolutely A-grade, as are the weapons, characters, cheats, graphics, controls and, yeah just everything about it.
Nothing has come close! There's many great FPS games, but in terms of absolute quality and making FULL use of a platform, nothing beats Goldeneye.

I would put Perfect Dark (better than Goldeneye in every way), Halo 1/2, Cod4, and UT2K4 on that level, personally.

Hexen would be near the top of my list for SP FPS, followed by TFC for MP FPS. Best MP FPS ever? Oohhhh.... Mario Kart on the N64 (What? you shot shells and it was almost FPS :D )

I really wanted to love Perfect Dark, but the slowdown ruins the game in multiplayer. That's what I mean about making FULL use of a platform, not OVERLOADING a platform.
Mario Kart 64, standard. Block Fort, 4-up, lots of joints, dun kno!

Anyway, are there any actual multiplayer gameplay videos of BF3 yet? The proof is in the pudding as they say...

The Xbox 360 version of Perfect Dark runs flawlessly, with better graphics too.

I've always thought Double Dash was better than MK64, but to each his own. Skipping half the level on Rainbow Road is one of my favorite gaming accomplishments.

For BF3 to really stand out and succeed, it needs to have extra focus on teamplay in multiplayer, which really no FPS has had in a long time without being "too realistic" (like ARMA/Op: Flash). BF2 was almost there, and decently balanced fun/realism with a lot of focus on teamwork but not enough. The mod community fixed it with things like Reality Mod, focusing on teamwork by adding things like a spotter for the sniper. If it relies on squad tactics, and I don't have to shoot someone 10 times to kill them, then I will probably upgrade to play the multiplayer soon.

The no modding tools/SDK already disappointed me, but I hope it does well as a lot of them don't think there's much reason left for devs to develop for PC. More and more are reluctant to make PC games, and some don't even want to port to PC any more, like Rockstar taking years to reluctantly port to PC and doing a pretty poor job.

I have a feeling there will still be some mods though, like when the community made GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas multiplayer mods that worked pretty damn well. They seem to be using the excuse that amateurs can't do it justice, but I've played many mods that were far superior to the game they were based on. They jelly.

oh and re multiplayer
Squad Leader confirmed, 4 Person Squad
Ability to spot a Enemy Squad Leader
Equippable Grenades
Falling debris from destruction 3.0 can kill players!
Equippable knife as well as quick knife (like BC2)
Support class able to mount bipods and give ammo
Rifleman class has medpack + defibrillator
Ability to change fire modes in multiplayer (semi/burst/auto)
Regenerative health in MP, but suppression effect stops regen (only regen when you aren't under fire)
Suppression effects from LMG, blur vision
Flashlights can blind the enemy
First Person Animations in Multiplayer
Faction Specific Weapons + Unlocks
Vehicles can be immobilized before being destroyed
Able to opt out of Revives in Multiplayer
3D spotting

best multiplayer over golderneye can easily be perfect dark, quake 2 & 3, ut99 and 2004, cs, and tf2

Found this haha http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bf3modtools/

I don't think these are too useful (that COD dedicated servers one had a few hundred thousand too I think) besides as a way to raise some awareness but still interesting to see comments and how many people sign.

This would be perfect timing for Activision to announce their plans to provide an SDK for MW3.....Not that that would ever happen, being the forefront of purchasable DLC content.

I also fail to understand why the PC gaming industry doesn't learn from Valve. A developer that has arguably built the biggest and best online PC gaming community, which owes a huge portion of that popularity down to its support of the modding community. I'm looking at the figures on stats for FPS' at the moment, and the top three most played games are Valves', almost triple the amount of peak players as MW2/BFBC2.

You argue that alot of CoD gamers arnt playing through steam, yet I doubt you could stroll on COD:MP and find 55,000 users playing right now.

^ To be honest, a good majority of COD players are "casual gamers"... CS/DoD etc players are pretty hardcore based on my experiences. Dedicated gamers tend to flock to and stick to games that offer communities that cater to them. Same reason there's still a lot of people playing Quake 2 mods. Half-Life was technically a Quake mod too.
