6.6 separate earthquake?

They're saying it may be a completely separate epicenter (therefor not considered an aftershock) but arent sure yet. Crazy stuff

After starting a thread about this in the wrong place, I'd just like to say again that my thoughts go out to the victims and their families.

news saying nagano.... though it was considered rather shallow (1km deep) so they arent positive if it was an aftershock or a completely separate fault that was weakened by this earthquake

I put Sky News on as soon as I got home from work. Saw footage of the tsunami before it hit to the complete and utter destruction it wreaked. Powerful stuff, actually made me cry.

Holy shit. :o

Big out to everyone in Japan effected by this horrible disaster. I agree with what Pkay said. Many more lives could've been lost had it not been for Japans advanced architecture.

I wonder if any organizations will send out help to Japan. Im from the states, and just about dead broke, but if there's any way for me to get out there and help, it's something I really feel like I'd want to do, not to mention how much I'd get out of such an experience.

edit: and was it really necessary to say you dont care about this, just because your love of whales. Sorry man but fuck that. My heart goes out to any living creature who dies for unnatural causes (anything other than old age), whales or humans. This is really fucked.

unlike haiti and the areas hit by the tsunami a few years ago Japan has the infrastructure and workforce to recover from this relatively quickly. It's a testament to their innovation and manpower no doubt.

I think if you want to help anything the red cross is already sending out goods for those who are currently homeless.

Yeah thats what I figured. I tried pretty hard to get out to Haiti last year, but any programs that flew people over there for no charge were completely full and almost impossible to get into.

Please take your soapbox sensationalism to a separate thread. We don't need a snake oil salesman in a thread attempting to mourn/relay information about a natural disaster.

0014: Japan declares a state of emergency at the Fukushima-Daini power plant, where three of its reactors failed, the Associated Press reports. It says a state of emergency is already in place at the nearby Fukushima-Daiichi plant, where two reactors failed.
This is not good :(
