i read the rules again and you said that the first thing it is supposed to be based on is the cleverness/funniness of the lyrics. What if I don't make clever/funny lyrics but more of serious type stuff? A bit like some of eminems stuff?
...in my opinion

i just want to learn to properly toast
but i don't think i'd ever get there without actually doing live MCing for years with some mainstay talent or venue
Maybe its just something you've got or don't. :\

writing rap comes natural for me but the type of here/now social aspects of jazzing up a crowd and helping them connect with the music
that's genius

If it doesnt have some sort of appeal to almost everyone involved in listening, then your not gonna get too many ppl to listen for very long. And the ones who HAVE listened are definitely not gonna tell their friends about it. I think its all kinda like a game like politicians play, not so much saying what you want to say entirely, but doing it in a way where you still speak your mind but appeal to the masses. :W:

I didn't mean clever AND funny (though both together = ultimate win) but if your lyrics aint either then I'm afraid they are whack. Of course you can do serious stuff if you want but if your just rhyming bait words with no substance in any of your bars then you aint gonna get rated highly.

For what it's worth, sure Eminems new music may be dry as fuck but the stuff your referring to is damn clever wordsmithery. The boy has talent, I even saw a recent freestyle he did that was dope, god knows why his album stuff has turned to shit.

Lets just remind ourselves of what 'serious' clever rap sounds like;

And the funny stuff...

It don't matter what style you come with as long as you've got bars heavier than a lead elephant.

EDIT: and to whoever asked, hell yeah I'm entering this too!!

Got halfway through making a beat then scrapped it and started again. Not even thought about the lyrics yet but I'm definitely gonna have to call someone out...

Was making a hiphop beat, but sounded dull so I said fuck it, I'll make a drumstep track instead :lol:
Almost done with the beat now :)
