jub, it's not a matter of cheering up. if you heard this shit every fucking day, you'd get a little sick of it too. it's not like i am just picking at this because it's fun to do. i get irritated and sickened by it because i hear it every day. somewhere, at least several times a day. and when it's embedded in our culture that it's ok to make women the butt of every sexist joke, i find it rather sad and offputting to find that mentality here.

if i came on here spouting racial slurs, and then justified it all by saying "it's a joke", would you find it funny? or would you find it tasteless and rude?

it's tough to stomach this mentality in a scene that, for the most part seems open and chill and friendly.

basically, the topic of the post could potentially welcome more women into a great musical culture, but the lame comments contained within could also damage that potential.

so i ask this: is making snide and rude sexist comments under the guise of a "joke" so important to you that you would continue to do it, knowing that it disgusts many women who would love to be a part of this music?

i dig the tunes like everyone else here, but i am not gonna "cheer up", if your definition of cheering up means that i should stay silent when i see sexist BS from people who should know better.

I think perhaps you may be blowing shit out of proportion. Obviously I dont know how shit is where you are and I cant remember this thread to know if all the lame jokes are one a penny BUT if you are so bothered by it diss us blokes, its give and take, I expect to get as good as I give really, and most of the time for me it is just fun banter and I expect to get dissed back by whatever party. I havent read this thread for a while though so cant be sure of what gwan in it.

the suggestion that some of the 'lame' jokes in this thread are representation
of a deep seated sexism within society is ludicrous to me, sitting here as I do always with a typical british sense of humour.

The sad thing is that I understood your intention completely and agree 100% - it's the fact that it veered out of control into another direction that sucks.

It's so nice to get back to a soulful genre that has a good swing and attracts all peoples rather than the primarily militant crackhouse that so much of dnb has become - plus if new dnb's got soul or funk people hate on it something awful (at least here in SF).

All I can say is yay! I can skank again! And the ladies are thoroughly enjoying themselves rather than feeling intimidated by all the blunted hoodies and their gunfingers

i will say once more and then get on with it: it's easy to say that someone is blowing shit out of proportion when YOU are not the one that gets to deal with it every day. sorry...until guys can acknowledge that women's viewpoints matter, and that perhaps our reactions to this stuff have merit, then we will go round and round on this one.

and you didn't answer my question. if someone came in here spouting racist BS and then tried to blow it off as a joke, do you think anyone would actually believe them? or would they see through it as someone couching bad behavior in a thin veil of so-called humor?

to the thread starter: i don't think this post was a bad thing. i celebrate more women getting into great music, whether just the clubgoers, or the djs and producers!!

the intention was very good, even if some of the posters have no class.

so yeah. dubstep is HOT. this thread could have been cool. and you're all a bunch of wankers! ooops...just joking...

i havn't read the post, its 7 pages long, sorry.....you remeber that female producers thread a while back saying why isn't there more female producers etc. id say its down to stupid threads like this among other things.
