best way to tell if someones truly english, watch what they do when they're waiting for a bus. if they queue in an orderly fashion 5 minutes before it's there, english.

being english is all about absorbing deep level cultural norms and behaviour when you live there. you never think about it, but it's in you.

for other examples of typically english behaviour i notice every time i'm back in croydon i'd add:

talking about the weather
moaning

sticking up for the under dog
being a snob about other countries toilets while on holiday

mentioning the germans and americans in a casually rascist way

most of my friends and family in england, no matter what colour or religion, do most of these things.
why? because they spent their formative years there. they can't help it.

i tall you what does sometimes bother me if im being honest, the lack of people getting my english humour in shops / takeaways etc owned by people that dont grasp english humour.....also the general lack of friendliness at both my local asian owned (pretty sure they moved here given their grasp of language) paper shops...i am friendly to them and they are not friendly back and it seems tied into the lack of understanding of english culture

also 3 shops down is a hardward shop where i get all my useful stuff for the flat like one shot acid / superglue / plungers etc etc and a young guy works there that has pakistani parents but hes english and we get on well and tend to share a joke when i go in there...by english i mean he was obviously born here and gets our humour and way we are as well...he is the same

my views here are not racist and im also a half intelligent man so god knows how the inbred people that live on my estate tend to regard the two paper shops!

a friend of mine asked about vacancies in a branch of new look and a girl that didnt speak very good english in a polish accent laughed at her and said 'there is no job here'...now if i went to another country and got a job there i wouldnt laugh at someone born there asking about vacancies but thats just me..

its very easy to point the finger at others when you live an insulated life and then proclaim the people are getting upset for middle class reasons but the fact is people in a worse situation are more integrated into the lives of immigrants and are therefore going to often have more reasons to be annoyed

think about what the implications of that actually are - having immigrant businesses replacing British ones is bad why? british butchers dont serve halal meat, in asian communities where there are many muslims, you kind of need halal butchers, to believe that a prevalence of asian/muslim butchers in one, small area of a city the size of manchester somehow makes this country worse... is idiocy.

i live in wythenshawe in s. manchester, the largest council estate in europe, also one of the most deprived area's in manchester, and the country as a whole, benchill which is in wythenshawe was listed as the most deprived area in the country, i have friends from all sorts of life, from mega poor to mega rich, ive a wealth of life experience behind my views, including growing up in a jewish/muslim family in a notoriously working class, white, racist area so im on pretty firm ground when it comes to things like this

100% agree with Cleese. Although this doesn't only exist in London. Just look at any major city in this country - Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham etc. There are more people from other cultures/countries living in these cities than actual homegrown british people...... now i'm not popping off about all these different cultures but it's getting a little out of control and its not our fault but its the immigration laws of this country. We should never have joined the EU in my opinion. Thats basically said to all the smaller more deprived communities in Europe that they can come to our country and we will have open arms and a new life for them. They've realised this and taken advantage of it hence the over-run of all the other cultures. Lets face it its primarily people with little money looking for work coming to this country and moving to the big cities (because its where the money is) ... it's not multi-millionaires moving to this country. My opinion, our immigration laws should be like Australia's. If you have nothing to offer/provide this country - jog on.

Read a review that there are more British people moving to the country and out of the cities and last year just under a million british people emigrated .... their main motivation .... overcrowding. Now I can believe that.

On a totally different side note - This got me thinking about our police force in this country. Were the only country where our law/police force aren't really feared. Think about it ... you see some drunk louts fighting in the street and (if by luck) there was police there ..... the would still continue to FIGHT!! I mean in any other country like america for instance ... you see the police and fook me your on your toes. Or russia ... if you sneezed in the direction of a russian officer ... you'd get the beat down of your life. The police force over here have NO respect. Seriously twisted and failed government in this country. Probably why all these brits are emigrating each year.

there's a vast portion of immigrants who come to this country who are highly skilled and can't get jobs doing what they did back home because they dont have the required qualifications in this country

immigrants also prop up our economy with service sector work, the hospitality industry is basically run by immigrants and students, two hated portions of the population

numerous times during this countries history immigrants have been shipped over and welcomed to do basic jobs that need doing by someone and have subsequently been fucked in the arse afterwards

a lack of culture and economic frailty in area's that have been neglected and abandoned by consecutive governments is why people have a problem with immigration

and if you look at the statistics, the overwhelming, towering majority of our population is still white British
