i just think people should be able to use whatever language they want without being persecuted that's all, the word itself is actually quite irrelevant, but if someone wants to describe something that's crap as gay, and they don't mean any offence to gay people then i really can't understand why one would take offence to it, anyway, i don't really think this is the best place for this discussion, but you can rest assured, i won't use the word on the forum as clearly you're not happy with it.

Seriously getting tiresome. Very offensive, even to us straight folks who wish for peace and unity on this planet. I bet if I started running around yelling racial slurs, people here might have a problem with it--then why be a sexist bigot?
We don't want that, lets correct it, please. I happen to personally know of at least one person with an alternative sexual preference here, and plenty of others in the real world. I can assure you, you wouldn't walk into the city and start calling people porch monkey, or to the suburbs and calling people honky and cracker.
in other words, when it's not you that's being attacked elsewhere with it, it's easy to try and defend the usage. but when it is you, it feels like utter shite. words have power, and have been used historically to demonize and (not-so-subtley) verbally beat people into submission. it's time we recognize that fact, and take responsibility for what those words may mean to someone whose life experience may include having been attacked with language.
defending the use of "gay=stupid/crap" by saying the term has evolved is refusing to recognize the fact that we know what it means, we know the origins and the negative uses, and that we know it can be used to hurt people. it's lazy, and frankly, unacceptable.
the english language is large and multifaceted. i think it's time we stopped acting like high schoolers with limited vocabularies and start acting like adults with access to thesaurus.com.
p.s. changing the spelling doesn't change the word. gay or ghey, it's all still a lazy, uneducated word to use to describe something that sucks. i am all for the recent idea of using "phelps" (referencing the rev. fred phelps, that religious nutter who pickets the funerals of gay people and soldiers) for a better effect.
p.p.s. if anyone ever called me "gash" to my face, i would rip their testicles off. so yeah. that one's pretty vile too.
a ''lazy uneducated word'' to describe somthing that sucks lol. n sucks is such a proper word eh. durp.
i'll use gay to describe somthing i dont like so bite me. when i say it, it has nothing to do with homosexuals, so you lot need to get off your high horses and stop being so gay. if you really wanted to be offended by somthing, its easy enough to do so.
times have changed, get a grip.
To be honest, with good mates it's piss-taking about anything down the line and no prisoners, never any harm meant and I think it shows how comfortable you are with each other that that can happen. I'd never think of going up to a complete stranger and trying to offend them.
On a public forum though it's best to be a bit more careful not to offend. If it's overtly nonsense then let it go, but can't be doing with bigots. Funnily enough a friend of mine had a gay lecturer who said that he didn't like going to gay clubs in a particular town cause they were a bit "faggy" - I found this quite odd at the time but then realised that not every gay bloke necessarily likes hanging round with bitchy queens. It was quite odd to me at the time, cause I thought there was a solidarity in the community, but divisions creep in everywhere really.
Everyone's a bigot about something, but hopefully this reduces with awareness and life experience. There's fuck all solidarity in the outside world for most things, so we should ensure that what we got we keep good and not exclude anyone. Unless of course they're total dicks of course.
Sorry bit pissed, so excuse the sentimentality

THIS CONVERSATION IS WAY OVER MY HEAD.
I TYPE IN ALL CAPS. CAPS LOCK FTW.
no, really. I make gay jokes all the time. My gay friends have never been offended. I'm not especially homophopic and sertainly not a rashalist,
anyways, sorry if I offended people on the forum. Honestly, just the way I talk.
Seemed appropriate at the time.
'Willing to take the "ignorant" stamp.

yeah i did recognize the irony in using the word "sucks" when asking for better words. but i have also stated my thoughts without being an asshole, so i expect the same from others when stating an opposing viewpoint.dj slums wrote:what a load of bollocks.sapphic_beats wrote:as someone who has spent a good chunk of her adult life having terms like gay used as slurs, i find that it's easy to try and dissociate the term from its negative connotations when you are not on the receiving end of the more hateful uses. when you ARE on the receiving end, it's like a smack in the face every time i see someone use it to describe "things that suck".dj slums wrote:i cant speak for anyone else on here, but when i use the term gay, i mean gay as in wank. gay as in crap. gay as in rubbish. the term gay has changed for a lot of people, just like it did all those years ago when it went from describing somone whos happy, to somone whos homosexual.ThoughtBombing wrote:It would be nice if you could refrain from using devisive terminology, such as gay, cigarette, homo, or any of the racial slurs that I have seen whipped out here lately.relaks wrote:SHIT IS GAY AS HELL IN HERE, THE HEART IS GONE.
