What the hell *else* are they doing BUT spreading the sound and promoting? Ask that they don't post the full tracks, that's fine, but don't pretend they aren't doing anything to contribute. That's a childish viewpoint.seckle wrote:Spare us this " but the channel was helping spread the sound" bullshit. No one in 2011 is going to swallow that cookie anymore.

I love your ridiculous and patronising assumption that someone who likes to use Youtube to find new music therefore does nothing else but use Youtube to do that - its just another platform. Besides, you say "maybe kids will do work again and ... research labels and artists" - that's exactly what people like me are doing when they're browsing through Youtube for new music and whatnot. Also, you use the example of browsing Soundcloud accounts - what's the difference (in terms of the way you discover new music using it) between doing that and browsing Youtube?fractal wrote:Maybe kids will do work again and visit record shops, soundlcoud accounts, research labels and artists, listen to rinse or sub fm, download some of the hundreds of mixes that are available each week or come onto the forum and find some tunes... Or maybe they will just continue to use whatever they can find in poor quality on YouTube since its "easy".
You're completely missing the point.
listening to previews of tunes on chemical or whatever is all well and good but if I can hear the full track I know what the intro sounds like etc, which helps me decide which tunes to BUY on vinyl.
I would love to go to a record shop to do this but unfortunately I don't live in London and there isn't a single shop in my city that sells vinyl, unless you count charity shops selling second-hand pop tunes from the 80s...
Dead on. I _primarily_ find my tunes via youtube. It's once I've heard the full track on youtube that I know what it sounds like (previews on junodownload and beatport and the like are absolute shit) that I will THEN buy the track. If you don't have a preview on youtube (or somewhere equally simple to play the full quality track) for me to listen to it, I'm not giving you a dime. You can disagree with that but it's my money.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
Part of the problem is that a lot of people who helped forged dubstep's origins now rely on it for their financial livelihood, this in turn creates the dichotomy of people creating and promoting leftfield counter-culture products but acting like faceless corporate wankers about them.

Re: RIP backspace dubstep
As standard I remove all nakedlunch material from youtube
Why?
1. you never asked my permission to use my material , you placed the onus on me to ask for your permission to remove my material , did you ask me could you upload it?
2. people can rip the high quality audio , so why buy the digital version?
you cannot believe the amount of djs playing youtube rips in clubs
3. you use the entire track , not a shortened version which is still enough for people to decide weather they like it or not
4. youtube makes an annual profit of $1billion but do not pay me for you or youtube users benefiting from free access to my material
5. un-like producers(boddika, skream etc etc) , i cannot generate revenue to keep the label running by performing , I do not dj , no revenue from vinyl&digital sales = no money to release music = no label
6. I don't need help to promote my own label - I can do my own promotion , I have my own youtube channel , with shortened versions of the tracks , so therefore if people look on youtube for the artists on my label there is material provided.
7. as regards "fuck the music industry" comments - independent labels are not part of any industry , the majority of independent labels are run for love and passion , but neither love nor passion pay for pressing records , art work , distribution - sales do.
you cannot ever compare what an independent labels does to what sony , mca , virgin does... thye are very different entities , the only common link is music..

This is another reason I adore Naked Lunch <3!
7. is probably THE most important thing to remember.
If anything, people should be pushing for labels to get more hits on their youtubes.
Wish more people would give labels back their music.. When it gets released it doesn't become "the worlds property"... bloody frustrates me.

Where did you get that from? Youtube makes an annual loss, it is not a profitable company.nakedlunch wrote:

if we keep seeing brand new screen names popping up in this thread to make bait comments, these names will be instantly deleted. stop being cowards, and stand behind what you say.

Do the maths, they might be starting to make a profit now but they are not making a billion in profit. That report also pegged YouTube’s expenses at $711 million per year
