Nearly 8 million blacks

you have shown such a ridiculous amount of disrespect towards the AFRO/CARIBBEAN community by referring to them in such a crass, casually racist and politically incorrect term. :corncry:

I noticed that and edited just before you replied. I have literally no idea why my fingers typed "blacks" instead of "people", but I'm going to blame Saturday night. There most certainly aren't 8 million black people in London! :o  :dunce:

You live in Leeds, right?

You know how you can seperate the Yorkshire language into numerous different dialects? Sheffieldites speak differently to your neighbours who in turn speak differently to those in York, Bradford and almost unrecognisably differently to those in Middlesborough and Scarborough? The same is true of most areas. I can tell the difference between a Bristol accent and a Weston-Super-Mare one although only 25 miles seperates them.

Around 5 million people live in Yorkshire, an area of vastly larger than London.

Nearly 8 million people live in London in numerous distinct areas with distinct cultures. It's possible to grow up around enough people of a certain accent (whether cockney, posh, foreign or, most likely, a mixed dialect that's been percolating for generations) that you never even notice it's not the "standard" accent (as if there is such a thing!). I grew up around 'well spoken' people in Somerset, so I'm well spoken with a bit of a Somerset twang... if you grew up around people with Leeds dialects, you probably speak in a Leeds dialect. It means nothing about you.

You come across like you don't really understand city living and certainly don't understand London. Although millions of people are born and grow up here, it's main function for over a millennium has been to melt imported cultures and businesses together in order to make the best city in the world. It works. This place fucking RULES. There's a reason why London was the home of British jazz and blues. There's a reason why it was the home of punk. There's a reason why London was the home of house and rave. There's a reason why London was the home of Grime and Dubstep... we're not afraid of foreign culture. We find it exciting. We find bigots frustrating, which is good, because they tend to die out and never amount to anything anyway.

I'm amazed anyone can consider themselves a fan of urban music and not have the slightest bit of respect for city culture. The point of it is to mix with other cultures, not to develop one homogenous culture that we can all feel superior about.
Not for one second did i say i have no respect for any city culture, think youre misreading things slightly here. Fake gangsta talk has nothing to do with culture whatsoever. Ive lived all over including germany, london, leeds, york for example so i think i have a pretty good grasp on 'city life' as you call it. Please climb down off your high horse, youre getting worked up for no reason.

You're the one labelling people with city accents "pathetic" and "wannabe gangsters". Just because gangsters on films talk like that doesn't mean ONLY gangsters talk like that. You don't have to have special road-speak elocution lessons before you can sell your first 8-ball... people from certain areas naturally talk in certain ways, it's not fake if it's your natural accent! You've made it pretty clear with your posting in here that if they grew up certain areas, you think you're better than them (or at least less 'pathetic').... it's pretty clear who mounted their high-horse first.

Ugly shit, kid.

no disrespect
but all i hear in that Fuck New York track is new york flows over a new york beat
and it seems obvious to me without new york there'd be nothing of the sort anywhere
at least unless they invented hip hop somewhere else eventually
except, they didn't. South Bronx = birthed all this
grime scene fascinates me and it's refreshing given the lack of hard flow and lyricism in USA hip hop these days
even really old grime mixes sound refreshing to me
just seems to me if them are gonna cop our style they could choose somewhere better to diss than NY

lol yh that tune's not grime. it's also tongue in cheek.

'let me straighten this out I love new york, come on I got family from new york, the reason why I did a fuck new york, cos I was tryna get attention from new york, what you think I'm tryna go against a whole state, come on use your brain you're so late, that's my city I'm runnin new york (what did you say?) I said that's my city, I run in new york'

Most Grime has a London accent... a fair few London dialects have bits of patois mixed in, but that doesn't make it Jamaican...
I think you're exaggerating the truth a bit here. If that was the case why haven't the South Asian accents had just as much an influence?

Jamaican accent and dialects are cooler?
not tryna be snide here.. just a valid theory... over time the immigration spreads bits of culture through a region's dialect, but only the ones that people like are gonna stick. for example, as far as i can tell, in NY, Italian words and style of speaking are more influential than the Irish. even for people with no heritage from either place... the "new york accent" is kinda Italian
