Positivity is good. Whether or not some or all of the converts from dnb are trying to turn dubstep into lumpen macho midrangey bollox, whingeing about it isn't going to stop them. Preaching to them and any other heathens out there about the might of Ghost, El-B, Groove Chronicles etc or about all the mad creative original dubstep out there pushing new directions has to be more rewarding...

drum n bass is not stale. some of it is, but alot isnt. yes, theres a fuck load of the mainstream stuff thats wank, which is whats being mentioned, but dont include the good stuff in all of this.

dig a little deeper.

anyone would think your not allowed to be into more than one type of music. its ok to like both. you dont have to make excuses and pack the other in like an ugly fat girlfriend.

n there seems to be a certain smugness in all this too. like dubsteps just so cool and individual, but all other dance music is like sooo cliche....

amens are like sooo 96 man, and i actually laugh out loud when i hear a reece. theyre like sooo lame. my royal ears demand to hear only the newest freshest sounds.... rah rah rah.

i did dnb before dubstep....and i played in punk bands before dnb

i feel good about my dubstep, its a nice outlet....do i care if people say it sounds like dnb sometimes?

i sure dont...i still say dnb has the finest production quality and standards out there 'sound' wise....i just happen to like the dubstep bpm range more rite now and making stuff in that range happens to fit my artistic mood rite now

so yay dnb, yay dubstep, and yay for all the other genres that influence both of them

I couldn't agree more with Seckle's arguments in this thread, and, rest assured, this isn't some kind of bum licking show of support for him.

I was let down a few weeks back at FWD. Why? Because Skream rolled out tune after tune of lame build ups into predictable drops, complete with drum rolls and painfully loud mid range synths etc etc. It was a rave.

There was no vibe. There was no subtlety to the music. There was no soul. And these were the things that drew me to dubstep.

Strange how the things that drove me away from DnB showed up ininvited down at Plastic People that night.

DnB producers like Martyn do so well because they are influenced by more than DnB itself. This is a point that the right honourable JAIME made so eloquently earlier in this thread. And it's one we should all heed...
