oh just a tip, when you're listening to your tune as a whole, DON'T LOOK AT IT ON YOUR DAW'S ARRANGE VIEW. you'll get caught up in it and stop listening to the actual tune, plus it can make a boring track seem more interesting

Grow an imagination or embark on a psychonautic journey into the depths of your mind, buddy. Open your eyes and ears to the world you live around. Look at the street art, nature, people in your neck of the woods; listen to the noises outside your house, in your local park, go to an abandoned factory or go to a construction site. EXPLORE the world you are surrounded by. There is no excuse for you not to find inspiration in your daily life. Hell, if all you do is sit at home, watch tv and play video games, listen to the noises in your house, make cartoons or tv shows or stories from house hold objects. Have FUN!

I try to beat my personal best. My next release will be better than my last. This is borrowed from sport psychology.

"Just do it" has helped a number of areas of my life, like relationships.

This is one of the reasons I dislike creativity threads, they have a tendancy to get overly-wankywanky in terms of existentialist overtones. Field recorder, notebook. Carry with at all times. End.

The difference is, is how you see creativity.

Some people see it as when you can seamlessly get an idea from your head to your DAW while others see it as a way to get into a mind state where you only want to do something creative.

In the most simplistic terms though it is literally just carrying a note pad around with you and indulging yourself in things which don't make you think of the mundane. You can't be more creative to an extent because most of the time we're just trying to do something what sounds good and that can be sparked by anything from the sun shining to a sample to a mood you're in that day - once you get the stage where you're competent at making music, yesterdays turd is today's gold just because we are listening to things differently that day.

Its how you think about it, not what you think about.

I wouldnt say that is creative as such, thats just something which comes wIth time which is difficult at first, the creative part is what goes on inside of your head constructing the melodys, rhythms
and chord structures

Although i agree alot of the great sounds and songs come from the normal way of doing things, it doesnt mean that we shouldnt try and do things differently.. who knows what you do differently might catch on and become the normal

Alot of the time the different sounds will come from field recording but within field recording there is still alot of creativity, going further than just recording the sound of the wind or people talking, you can use it like how someone in FIlm uses sound design and build objects to actually sound like something completely different going with the theme of your track.

But your right is ultimately is your mind set which is brought on by your mood, lifestyle, diet or the latest synth or controller you have just bought. you cant teach being creative, its something your born with...maybe this thread should have been something along the lines of 'how have you been creative?' or maybe im just arguing for the sake of it...i never know these days

Creativity is the synthesis of ideas into new ones.

There are two non-exclusive approaches: planning and exploring.

Planning would mean hearing the composition in your head, then recording it.
Exploring would mean playing around with software to find something good.

Follow it with a bat, but seriously force it, or just wait a couple days and let your mind clear for a while.
