Afternoon all, good to see DSF back up and running!

New FKOF free for the week. Sparxy and and ID fully representing Bacon Dubs with 'Man on Fire':
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
"The intro emerges with one of Sparxy’s signature moves; heavily resonating and evolving reeses that instantly set the tone of both the intro and the tune itself. The keys (with phaser applied) in the background really elevates the atmosphere, filling up the space as the intro progresses. With a heavy kick and a guitar-like synth to support the build-up, the listener can tell this is a Sparxy tune - with ID joining the Bacon Dubs bossman in hinting at a destructive roller that's about to explode...

"Infamous for his intense and different sounding snare, Sparxy smashes the listener to pieces with a heavy and metallic-sounding snare that contains an enormous amount of impact and energy. The low-end has an immense character: heavyweight in the right spot of the sub-region, side-chained in a great manner! Percussion-wise the minimal approach applied by Sparxy and ID sounds great - which some proper variations to keep the tune fresh. With the break about to set in, what can the listener expect from the second drop?

"The break may remind the listener of some of Sparxy’s older work, building up to another climax in a very distorted fashion! As the second drop emerged so does the tune's final showdown: the reeses reach another level, raging from eardrum to eardrum via an amazing set of filters applied. Sparxy and ID make the reeses the leads of 'Man on Fire', with the rest of the elements involved becoming the support needed for a well constructed mix. This collaboration is such a roller, these two men are on fire, watch out for them both - and Sparxy's Bacon Dubs - in the near future!"

Afternoon all.

If anyone came down to Cable on Friday, thanks for reaching. It was a big one! Good to see some familiar faces and some new ones :)

First FKOF free for this week. John Matrix on the production duties:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“This is a track that heads straight down to the deep and dark. The evil intro is perfectly constructed, containing many interesting samples. A mystical pad flows together with ghost-like movements, with a delay implemented to give it a frightening character. John Matrix manages to create some seriously twisted sounds, including a reese that soon develops into an aggressive and fierce lead. The message that the sample delivers is striking, fading out perfectly before an immense force hits the listener’s ear...

“The glitches implemented on the reese are very original: its development throughout the mix is like a rush that slowly builds in its intensity. While the kick pounds like an overdosed heart, the snare is snappy, containing precise layering that hits the spot immediately. Percussion-wise, the different patterns implemented really keep this production as fresh as it can be. The layering of the low-end coincides perfectly with the mid-ranges, definitely something that will shake up the dancefloor!

“The break leads into the second drop, with the original sample returning. The reeses peak, reaching their ultimatum and slowly start to degrade - as the listener starts to reach a low level of morphine. Elements slowly disappear, while everything stays in balance, as John Matrix leaves the listener on the brink of addiction, craving for more!”

Afternoon all. Many, many thanks for everyone that's nominated/ voted for FKOF in the DSF awards. It's an absolute honour to feature on the list of websites nominated, let alone be leading it! Truly humbled.

Here's a cheeky FKOF free download to celebrate (there are a few more coming in the next few days):
Soundcloud

Korrupt 's review:
“This is one of those intros that takes the unaware listener into a new realm, where only evil forces rule. Gutcha’s musical composition is flawless here; the diversity of the samples used is amazingly wide. From mesmerizing pads, to a woman’s voice that takes control of the listener’s nervous system, Gutcha has truly created a monster!

“The drop contains an enormous amount of weight, giving ‘Blood Diamond’ unparalleled force in the dance. The percussion is another high point, adding to the hypnotising vibe Gutcha creates. The number of different rhythms implemented, reinforced by the tactical soundscapes moving in the background, arguably make this tune one of Gutcha’s finest productions. A snare slowly fades in, bringing the listener some form of respite...

“The break is well constructed; a pounding heart in the background gives ‘Blood Diamond’ an organic feel. As new drum patterns close in around the listener, Gutcha aims straight for the kill and releases the chains to unleash this beast once more. The reeses are a great destructive force as are the powerful chords - making ‘Blood Diamond’ near enough immortal. This is a spotless production from Gutcha. The man that made this is bloody insane; giving this out for free is just too much!”

Forgot to post #2 of the three tunes we're giving away to say 'love and thanks' for the nomination/ votes for 'Best Website' in the DSF awards - so here's the second and last FKOF free downloads in one go.

First up, FJH's 'Layers':
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“The ‘layers’ of sinister soundscapes are one of the main strengths of this mix. They not only create a certain texture, but also give this track a completely different dimension. While heavy distorted and resonating basslines pass the listener’s eardrums, the ghost-like samples aim straight for the heart, preparing the listener for a big impact...

“The first drop leaves creates some serious debris, through both the well-balanced mid- and low-ends. The kick pops nicely while the snare smashes the listener’s eardrums from one side to another. The massive low-end feels warm, but adds a frightening effect to the whole piece – excellent work from FJH! The one growl implemented has this distinctive tone that causes hairs to stand straight up. For the most part repetitive drum patterns controls the mix, with great panning effects added on top to widen the earlier mentioned dimensions.

“The break shows some great development and the second drop hits even harder than the first. While the samples return in the mix, FJH is already working towards an ending with emotive keys that start to set in. ‘Layers’ sounds like an evolving organism, it’s hard to really define it – a truly powerful tune. The tune’s last breath is a vocal sample that combines with the haunting samples from earlier in the mix. These elements complete a tune that’s definitely for the real deepheads out there, enjoy!”

Download the 320 here: http://www.mediafire.com/?3w45ecf0x4afrwv

Third and final, here's Darj's 'Circles':
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“The atmospheric elements present in the intro really prepare the listener for this tune’s potential: a wide range of vinyl crackles, ghost-like whispers, an epic war drum. Darj makes excellent use of delay to enhance the amount of deepness expressed from the inner core, where glitch elements are implemented to add much to the contagious vibe already established.

“The first drop can be described as one with a great deal of energy; spreading like a mystical virus in just a split-second after impact. The force that comes off the low-end is gigantic, accompanied by a solid kick and snare that make this tune yet another impeccable piece by Darj. The growls that fade in and out of the mix cover a wide mid-range, slicing the mix apart with no remorse whatsoever. As Darj’s boundaries are still undefined, he continues to add strange constructive percussive elements, building towards the fully developed ‘Circles’.

“The break is short but very effective. As identical as it may sound to the intro of the mix, it has a slightly different purpose. This bridge to the second drop is everything Darj needs to build up to another climax, again leaving his signature on this tune. Containing a library of samples, all forming one complete story, ‘Circles’ is definitely a tune that can be rinsed out in any deep set. As Darj continues to push forward with productions like this, where flow and definite impact is assured, he’s definitely one to watch out for in 2013.”

Proper humbled at the response to the DSF Award nomination - love and thanks to everyone voting and putting FKOF in such an amazing list. Proper blown away by the support!

Had a crazy week last week with the MaasBASS family and Kaiju, Quantum Soul, Killawatt, Congi, Toast and the MCs in Maastricht (hold tight for the videos!) so FKOF was pretty quiet. Back with a bang tonight with the latest MIG x FKOF feature with Bristol's Calksi/ Lamont.

We've also got a cheeky FKOF free download to accompany the above, find it below:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“The intro to Lamont’s ‘Signal’ sounds very strong, potentially reminding the listener of entering a threatening and darkened room. The samples purveying these emotions combine to create a cinematic journey through the mind of this Bristolian producer...

“The first drop is heavy, with a pounding kick and a solid sub-region levitating through the mix. The dungeony vibe disappears, but the complexity of ‘Signal’ continues to increase. The tune’s mixdown is brilliant; the elements sounding remarkably crisp – overwhelming the listener with rhythm and masterful pattern placements. The heavily adapted vocal samples also help to give the tune an extra spin – impressive.

“As the break commences, the dark emotions from the intro return, as an amazing kick pattern pounds the listener. The second drop is something quite surprising: Lamont manages to stir things up with more heavy sample use! The listener can hear an energetic ending fade out slowly, as the samples disappear while the kick manages to punch holes right through you!

“A very unique production from Lamont, the signal is now stronger than ever!”

Here's the FKOF free download from Malleus, let me know if you're feeling:
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Malleus’ ‘Trudging’ opens with a solid wobble that leaves its signature on the mix. Moments later, a strange voice gives the listener a message; warning of a dangerous impending impact. The tribal sounding percussion hitting the mix sounds really fresh and sharp: destroying anything it may find on its way!

“Shortly after the drop, an alarm-like synth fades in to raise the mix’s upper region, hinting at the return of the huge wobble from the intro. The low-end works great with the unique patterns present, giving ‘Trudging’ the warmth it deserves. The low-end also gives space to the other elements Malleus uses; great implementation that’s definitely worth highlighting.

“The change in drum patterns is flawless, they are constantly fresh while really stirring the track up. With all the elements returning to the tune in a different order, the listener can easily conclude that Malleus is a percussive beast!

“With mental productions like this, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be hearing Malleus destroying your dancefloors. Watch out!”

But first we've got a bit of footage from the FKOF takeover at MaasBASS' 2nd birthday last Friday in Maastricht - shot and edited by Joellyn Both.

Next up, a quick update from the FKOF team: we part ways with MakeItGood, a FKOF2.0 update, we kind of say goodbye to Chris and yes, we're looking for new FKOF contributors

Then we've got a quick post on GetDarker's latest 'This Is Dubstep' compilation that dropped today:

4 proper decent tunes in there, thoroughly recommend a listen via the set embedded!

Just downloaded three new FKOF mixes; the first mix in the new 'FatKidOnFire Presents' series, a new Artist Highlight mix (sounds of 130bpm) and the latest FKOF resident mix from C Tee (which is a Hyperdub vs Punch Drunk special). Will get those uploaded over the next week or so! :Q:

Evening all.

Been a momentous weekend celebrating the DSF Award win at DMZ 8 so first off thank you everyone who voted for FKOF. To go from not even being nominated last year to winning this year was a total shock - but a very awesome one. Congrats to all the FKOF fam - special mentions to Kaiju for winning 'Best New Producer' and being nominated, along with Gantz, for their MIG x FKOF mixes. Proper awesome :)

Next up, I've started putting the pics and videos from DMZ on Friday up online.

Two new FKOF free downloads tonight coming from Nomad Records' Epitome

'Chains':
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Ghost-like sounds form the basis of this intense introduction; one that’s full of different elements that heat things up properly. From a contagious synth sticking to the bottom of the listener’s brain to crisp percussion, all the elements suck the listener right into the drop. With creepy, interesting ambient noises adding much to the depth, this roller is just about to commence..

.

“Epitome brings the listener up to speed with a flawless mixdown of kick followed by a resonating deep end that will make heads shake. Another part of their formula is the heavy-hitting tribal sound pushing the listener over off the edge. Crazy filters and the amazing implementation of both reverb and resonance are an surprise attack – leading the way for more damage.

“A more twisted emotion comes in when the break hits. The ghost-like sounds seem to have fully developed, ready to penetrate the brain even further. The message delivered by ‘Chains’ is almost too hot to handle; the excellent blend of all elements, including massive growls that haunt you until after the track is finished, make this tune a heavyweight head-nodder. With this summoned during the dance, the kill count will run up like crazy!”

'Silverday':
Soundcloud

Korrupt's review:
“Epitome create some serious atmosphere through the Asian-like samples implemented; moving into a journey without borders. The mystical pad in the background synchronises with the listener’s brain and, from contagious, crisp hi-hat patterning to beautiful samples, ‘Silverday’ transforms into something much more evil...

“One of the things that makes this track so interesting is the innovative but merciless kick-patterns. With an amazing delay added, growls are carved with an extra razor sharp edge! All the elements are nicely balanced, with a thick low-end in the sub area of the mix putting weight on the listener’s tympanic membranes.

“The break is well constructed, the rise that comes off the distortion added in the background is brilliant. The rise suddenly disappears – giving the unfolding second drop a serious amount of extra power. With growls expanding their shape, having cut through the maze with the percussive elements, Epitome make this ‘Silverday’ seriously ridiculous.”
