I still can't quite get this bass under my belt:
[+] Spoiler
I feel like I could really take my productions to the next level if I could master this bass. I think the main problem is not knowing what type of waveform to use. Sine doesn't have enough harmonics, square has too many. Saw and triangle just sound wrong. It also sounds like there's some enveloping/movement in the bass (especially in Mud VIP) that I can't quite get down right.

Here is my best shot at it. I used the drum pattern from the Loefah tune just to put it in context, but I only want to figure the bass out. It just sounds weak and feels like it doesn't have enough harmonics but if I add ANY harmonics or open the filter even a tiny bit, it sounds like waaaaaay too much midrange.

Also if anyone's just interested in how I did what I got so far in the soundcloud clip, here's a picture for yall (lol at loefah tune clipping):

Sine wave from Sylenth -> LP filter -> volume LFO -> EQ -> different types of distortion/compression -> more lowpassing & subtractive high shelf

I'm gonna try replicate the sound. Will give you updates let's see with what I come up.
There are various sounds on that track could you be more precise?

meanwhile I tried replicating loofah's mud.

In Mud VIP? If you listen to the track and then my soundcloud clip you will see what sound I'm after cause the rhythm and everything is the same. That's why I put the drum beat in there to give it the context. You will see. But it's the wobbly sub/low-mid bass that goes "wuh wuh wuh wuh.... wuh wuh wuh wuh"

In Kromestar tune it's the wobbly sub/low-mid again.

Just automate a sine's volume into a saturator, or automate the drive of the saturator itself. And/or automate a lowpass filter.

Lol at how similar ours sound  :Q:

yeah that's pretty much what I did, maybe i'm just overthinking this way too much. hashkey's sounds pretty similar to mine and he's pretty happy with it. it actually sounds like it has less mids but i feel like i'm missing part of the mids or some kind of enveloping/movement. Maybe a little vocaly even? maybe i'm just never happy with what I make for whatever reason. although nice tip on automating the saturation amount I didn't think of that. you can LFO the distortion amount in sylenth, i'll try that.

Also maybe the mids will come out more in the mastering process. It just sounds unattainable for some reason. Really bothering me.

Also I think NWJ is referring to this post:

http://www.dubstepforum.com/forum/viewt ... c#p1809178

If you click on the link you can see "Loefah - M..." The YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated due to multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement. DubstepTunez I bet. He had a lot of the Loefah classics...

C'mon what other loefah tune begins with M???

Besides Midnight

:D :4: Too bad a lot of people on the sound design got away from this kind of stuff. From the posts I read it was big in 2011 :(
By the Way I used in Massive Just an OSC with Sine/Square Exactly in the middle, And LFO on the filter lowpass, some dimension expander Thats All. Processing: scooped out some 500 and added a FF saturn Basic Saturator, Then Echo Boy with 1/16th note on SpaceEcho setting, almost fully saturated.

The problem I have very often too is over think these kind of sounds when in reality they are pretty simple Sine/square/saws XD.
Have you ever lost hours just messing with WT and ending up with...nothing?
Will try automating the saturator and volume, tomorrow I'll post the results ! need some sleep, nice tip.

the sub sound has verb on it as well i believe but this is a good attempt. also the vocal sample needs to be more wet w/reverb and not as long.
