Yeah personally I can't figure out who would qualify as the greatest.

I can say who my favorites are but that doesn't really mean I think they're the best

I recall seeing one of the ugk dudes saying in an interview that the chopped n screwed remix of a song with whitney houston ft wyclef sold a million copis just out of a trunk.

those guys in the south are literally self made. they put in WORK. like real work. all their own production, mastering, promo, concerts and distro. its rather impressive.

I want to throw Eyedea's name into the mix even though I will probably get savaged

I know this track is kinda out of kilt with the rest of the tunes in this thread but still, there's not many songs I have EVER heard that come close to being as articulate as this one, the lines about feeling like his brain is hanging on by a clothes pin, about how education hasn't given the vital skills needed for inner growth and how he feels betrayed by the system, it's actually pretty amazing;
