Yeah, but they are cocaine-enthusiastic about pretty much everything...
How many ESSENTIAL tunes can fit into a weekly review? BASS! BUY! NOW!
well hardly? there's a sizable number of reviews where they criticise the stuff. also it's very clear when they genuinely feel for something and when they're going through the selling motions

I just wish I could get my hands on the records I ordered a month ago. They're oldies now, and the party I wanted them for happened a long time ago.

like all record shops they only dis records in the past tense cause they have ALREADY sold it to you--- and the latest is the greatest, trust us.

trust your own ears.

The criticism's usually done with a pinch of salt - who's gonna slag off something they're trying to sell? They have the highest res clips on the net, make up your own mind! #

I buy Electronica & Minimal as well and find the site exceptional on all 3 counts including Dubstep.

Funny they're getting slagged off on the forum that about to award them "Record store of the year" I'm starting to worry about this place

Boomkat sell good stuff, but sometimes they big up some real shit. Like "this is the most amazing thing EVER" and you listen to it and its sub Basic Channel-drivel. And then you find out its on their own label.

Personally I am big fan of their Modern Love label esp the Andy Stott and Claro Intelecto stuff but if anyone buys a record from the blurb alone they should be charged twice for being an idiot

i find myself using boomkat less n less these days... don't even read the discriptions anymore as some were pretty waste... always buy a tune from what it sounds like not a write up..

never had a problem with Boomkat tho, delivery sometimes a bit slow but the returns and or refunds i've never had problems with...

always a great selection too (when its in stock)

IMO> When reviewing a release for the public, one should stay impartial and focus on the technical merit or lack thereof of the release they're reviewing, especially when the review is being used on an online record shop. Providing an opinion based review for said purposes is unprofessional and shows a lack of appreciation/consideration for customers loyal or otherwise.

PLUS.... no one likes a music snob...

It depends whose opinion it is...

I think a balance of opinion and objectivity is useful if it's from an astute source - which i think most people here agree boomkat is.

surely there's more to a great track than 'technical merit' - and other more useful aspects to mention...

it's not necessarily unprofessional to be entertaining and insightful for the purpose of prompting progression and innovation - is it?
seems to be doing their profession no harm
- it's a shame you don't appreciate their shtick.

BTW - what is your definition of a music snob?

Boomkat

Alright, just found our single on Mode recordings on Boomkat, check out their review of it.....if this isn't the most negative review I have ever seen, then I'm not sure what would be. Twats.

New from Mode Recordings comes two new productions by Pirola. D and Moody. G, who provide a novel perspective on dubstep with their strangely '80s-themed, new age-y sound sculpting. On 'Devil's Kiss', the extravagant levels of reverb on the snare conjure up memories of Def Leppard and their soggy drum sounds, whilst a similarly mushy 'Apocalypto' takes a vocal sample and loops it over ferocious bass assaults and incongruously insipid chime sounds.

Mushy?
Soggy?
Def Leppard?

The novel perspective and strangely 80's themed new agey stuff I can handle and am actually happy about (how old are these guys anyway if they are seeing 80s themes here...) but SOGGY DRUMS and Apocalypto (which is actually devil's kiss) as MUSHY? They even got the songs mixed up and to finish it up the called some of our sounds incongruously insipid? Obviously they don't know about odd time signatures (incongruously) and feel the need to use big words like insipid (ie. uncreative, dull, lacking flavor).

Note to boomkat: if you hate soggy and mushy releases this much, why sell them? As it is already out of stock, prolly won't be in again anyway...

WTF. Maybe the distro van hit an oatmeal stand on the way there and the records arrived soggy and mushy. I'm hungry, gonna go have some SubDivision porridge.

I love the fact they aren't afraid to slate something they think is shit, and the fact that they do so shows that people buy stuff regardless of what the review is like.
