I just busted out "wots my code" the other day, an old ass Total Science tune....now THAT was a tune!!! WTF is this shit they do now? Saw Q Project with J Majik last year and they threw the most uninspiring sets I ever seen, when back in the day I saw those guys playing fucking bangers..... grrrrrr.... it kinda pisses me off the way DNB has progressed.

I never really got into the evil death metal DNB (dylan, tech itch, killing sheep label) either, I can only stand it for about 5 minutes....no soul whatsoever.

For the last 3 years, all I buy are liquid, and mostly ragga, joints. Maybe it's different over here in the US, as I think there is a lot more Dj's that play the ragga here it seems, all that new school jungle. I buy a lot of that. General Malice, Tester, twin Hooker, Paulie Walunts, etc. Also buy all the dubwize shit I can get my hands on.... Digital Soundboy, that dubwize label, lookout records, There's more that I can't think of right now.
so a lot of the establishment stagnates

what else is new?

get some newer blood....like fanu

I'd buy newer DNB if I could find things I liked. I do dig, breakage, fracture, neptune, commix, marcus intelex, photek, johnny L, what they are doing now is pretty cool for the most part, some of it is even sorta groundbreaking. I'm listening to Fanu's myspace right now, ehhhhh.....not my thing, some of it is real cheesy. yea, I buy the establishment ragga and liquid, but it is the only stuff in the DNB genre worth buying, and even in those genre's 95% is just soso. I won't just buy anything. Even with artists I love, I'd say over 50% of their stuff isn't any good. I'm not too worried if these are establishment genres, if it works for me, then why not buy it? Cutting edge doesn't always equal good. There is plenty of cutting edge shite out there, in all music. Some of it works some of it doesn't. Some people are still doing the same music after 50 years (the rolling stones). Where am I going with this? I don't know.

Fanu is not really my style. He has talent, just not my thing. I have listened to at least 4 songs on his myspace so far, and not one is danceable.

This thread is all about opinion, and this is where I stand. I like some DNB, mostly older stuff, but I think it has gone downhill for the most part. I have only seen one DNB act in the past 2 years that actually was worth something to me and that would be photek. That has to say something about how I am feeling about DNb right now. Take it or shove it.

I mentioned some cats in my first post. They are all doing the old school sounding jungle thing....Tester, general malice, rcola, illict, etc. Check jungle X distribution, they got a bunch of stuff like that. The Canadians for some reason love that shit, bunch of producers from the great white north.

jungle dnb is still fresh as fuck. if you cant hear it, it just means you arent listening.

of course i love all of it, from jump up to kill your mother psycho shit... i dont play most of it, but ive had no problems finding plenty of tunes that i do play.

and oh by the way, if you ever cant find some new, theres always a shitload of old stuff to explore... cats seem to think that dubstep is on some explosion biz, but the reality is there is no way it can even touch the massive output of jungle in its early years....

i guarantee theres things on there youve never heard, i find new old things myself still everyday

Actually, I have heard some dark tunes that really blow my mind, so I guess I can't go pigeonholing it all to death, I am quick with the tongue sometimes..... but the majority of it I don't really get into. I love dylan and tech itch from the early 2000s, dylan was awesome with the hardcore revival stuff he did. I have one tech itch ep from back in the day that I still play on occasion, I love to slip the tunes from that album in as inserts, cause it bangs. But their stuff back then seemed fresher to me for some reason. I even have heard some killing sheep tunes that I would buy. There is always gonna be something I can relate to and like, but I really have to look for it more and more it seems with DNB.

The thing about D'N'B is although it has a lot a various styles to it. The basic beat of it sometimes gets on my nerves. Even though artists try to disguise or try change it some parts of a song, it always seems to stick there thoughout a song. 1...2.1.2 and repeats itself thoughout.

The original point of D&B / Jungle was that the beat never stayed the same !

you're obviously listening to a certain type of new D&B, that seems to have forgotten where it came from.

Check out Equinox, Dub One, Paradox, Fracture & Neptune, Martsman, Sileni, Breakage, Nebula, Sub, Sabre, Instra:Mental and people like that if you wanna hear some variety in yer beats.
