been making tunes since i was about 12ish, got my own setup and started to take it a bit more serious when i was 16, got my first tune signed at 17 lol (was sheer luck really)Mumble wrote:How long have you been producing for ?
How long did it take you to create tracks that you felt were worthy of releasing and playing out ?
Have you got any advice for young DJ's ?
This is very big btw, big up Breakage !
i only started to make tracks i was happy with around the time of my first album tbh, everything before that was never how i wanted it to sound.... i think the first one i really got right was "Morning Star" (the V.I.P is actually the original)
erm... as for advise for dj's.... i'm not sure i never really intended to be a dj as such, but i love it now hahaha
probably to learn to play for your audience and timeslot when you start playing out, i always hear the warm up dj just rinsing the biggest tunes at like 10.30 with 50 people in the dance, doesnt work.... the night has to flow as a whole!!

no kiddingdjake wrote:wow!breakage wrote:dont realy have a sub woofer at allBen Freeman wrote:When you produce, when do you use a subwoofer for monitoring purposes? Do you just turn it on to check how the low end sits in the mix, or do you leave it on the whole time? What kind of montiors and sub do you use?
i dont have monitors either, never have really
in l.a i just have a pair of dell pc speakers and in london a pair of old pioneer hi fi speakers from my dads old stereo lol
i just know how the bass sound sound on those speakers and look on the levels, eq analyzer and in the finished wave file

I was wondering if you could please tell me what the relative scale is to the G phrygian mode? It would be a big help to me in creating that eastern feel, and hopefully making lots of money! Ha ha!
I am like soooo your biggest fan of all time!
Big up mate, catch you on aim.
you joker
i just get my dog to put his paws on the keyboard and wait till he gets a good one and steal his genius
yeah, i started off with Fast Tracker and then onto Modplug Tracker up until christmas last year when i finally got a Mac lolDeadly Habit wrote:didn't you used to work with trackers?
any feelings on renoise becoming more and more of a contender especially with entry level pricing?
i think tracks are great, i just got bored of using them in the end though, i think after a while using the exact same setup for 10 years is a bit silly, i always wanted to learn how to use Logic, so i just went for it!
you can do some amazing things on trackers though.... you can lay a tune down really fast too
i never really see the point in resampling, ive done it a handful of times trying to make my own breaks (which never works out how i want them) or eqing original breaks before i cut them upJohnny Beat wrote:Do you bounce/resample stuff?
How do you get your subs really fat and pounding? (this wan't asked was it? if it was just ignore it)
i just do the exact same thing as everyone else for my bass, eq and compress... no secret tricks up my sleeve, although people never believe me!
a tune can take me anywhere from 1 day to a month. most tunes take me about a week or so now cos i put more into them than i used to and really strive to get everything in it's right placeParadigm X wrote:Couple of queries;
How long do you spend on each tune roughly?
How long do you do tunes for each day, roughly?
Cheers man
Clarendon/The Shroud was my purchase of 2008.
i think a lot of it comes down to the vibe of the tune, something deeper can be worked on bit by bit for a month or so, but if you just on a vibes roll out i try to do as much as i can in a day, if not you come back to it out of that moment and its not the same
i usually get up at 9.30am, check my emails, myspace, facebook forums and whatnot, feed the dogs, and then get on it till the mrs comes home (6pm ish) then im back on it by 12 till around 3 or 4am
if i come up with something worth working on though i get all the morning stuff out the way and plough right through till its done or i have a ruff draft to play out and test in the car

Was it sort of a natural progression from dnb to dubstep? Are you turning away from the former and just strictly putting out dubstep tunes?
Do you have another album in the works?
Any major changes that happened to you since your last album?

WEll I think I speak for most people when I say no ones ever 100% happy with a tune - you just gotta find that place where you're comfortable enough to let it rest and move on to the next.Paradigm X wrote:Wow. Long hours.
Thanks for the answer !
(i spend months on tunes, end up fiddling with every tiny detail. Think i need to be a bit rougher.)
Cheers man!
