Let people do what they want with their own music, I'm not too into wobble-heavy stuff myself (though there is a LOT of good shit out there that could easily be described as such - would you call DMZ's tunes mindless wobblers?) but I respect producers and listeners' rights to be into that sound.

this thread is pure win with all of the Curb Your Enthusiasm references!

I have nothing useful to contribute other than that. :)

The only dance music I listened too for the longest time was D&B. I had heard dubstep several times and each time I heard it, it was the wobble shit. So I tossed it aside and stuck to D&B.

Then I heard this mix a few weeks ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7-elsip ... annel_page

I was instantly blown away and now I'm a huge fan of this stuff. Upon further investigation, I found more of this sound (deep, intelligent, no fucking wobble).

Having to weed through all the garbage to get to the good shit is a pain in the arse. :u:

So I ask... Why the fuck is everyone so goddamn fascinated with wobble? Don't you guys ever get sick of it?
Stop making San Diego look bad...95% of drum and bass is garbage..
Of course 95% of D&B is garbage. But that has absolutely nothing to do with my post.

How the fuck am I making San Diego look bad? Are you that thick?

I'm not hating. I'm simply asking what this fascination is with wobble and how in the fuck people aren't bored out of their minds listening to that shit over and over again.

I'm not stopping anybody from doing anything. Just discussing this boring sound and the fascination behind it.

YOU obviously have never been to a smog or a pure filth party and heard dubstep on a major system.. Or else you would not come to Dubstep forum and talk trash about the most exciting genre to hit the electronic music scene ever..Go to a real dubstep party... Don't post stupid shit like this in the production forum on a DUBSTEP website...
How does listening to the same stuff Louder make it any more interesting?

i wouldnt say 95%, there is alot of non wobble dubstep. id say like 55-65% is wobbly. i like both equally as much. different style for differrent moods. thats why dubstep is so good, can suit any mood. any weather, any emotions. all made better by dubstep

well, that was just a quick slightly exaggerated assumption to get my point across.

ok. Dubstep to me is anything at around 140 bpm with broken beats.
HUH?
So what do you call real Electro and Breakbeat?

A lot of that was made with the 808 kick so it has loads of sub and has a broken beat.

Stuff like this that was made in 1983, is this Dubstep to you? :)

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

HEHE

You cannot say 140bpm + broken beat = Dusbtep because that is clearly not the case.

If you've never heard 'wobbly' dubstep live in a club then no wonder you'd prefer minimal.

It's a scene. Or maybe a bunch of scenes there days.

Trying to pin down dance music 'genres' by doing some sort of context free musical analysis and pinning down the musical features on paper is pretty much doomed to fail. To me the distinction is as much about the people, the places, the culture, the vibe and so on than some unchanging set of well-defined musicalogical characteristics.

Although obviously there's a lot of grey areas there too.
