This makes it way to easy for people to mix, and subsequently drawing the wrong type of people toward mixing dubstep.

Thoughts?
You fucking idiot.

deadaelus wrote:i guess the point i was originally trying to make is that a bunch of junior dj's at 15-16 years old are not learning to actually mix music.

We might as well all get traktor or ableton and let it auto synch our music for us so we can spend more time with our hands in the air in true tiesto style.

Dubstep is a good style of music with regard to groove and variety, and it can be challenging to mix if you are really working that angle. But to get up on stage and take 5 Bar9 tracks all at exactly 140 bpm, you are missing out.
this is almost an entirly diffrent subject, regardless ableton enables peop;e to be more creative thann ever before,,,,i dont see it as a bed thing at all as long as its being utilized as a tool for creativity.

Word. Like attracts like..being negative is just gonna destroy your scene! It's the killing factor! Just IGNORE bs and focus on QUALITY. Your attention is your weapon!

He's not Daedelus, the producer from Los Angeles. Different spelling.

I honestly don't see the correlation between easy mixes and "undesirables", or if there were, how that would in any way be a threat to seasoned DJs...
Argh, being medicated and the general prospect of Daedelus producing some dubstep / generally mixing it got me wet & didn't take note of spelling.

Don't suppose you know if any IDM / Electronica heads pushing over to Dubstep? I know Fourtet & Burial have come up with something?

i think its good most dubstep is 140
it means the tunes are played how theyre supposed to sound
if you've got to pitch a tune up or down to much you can lose the power thats supposed to be there
eg. you can make a tune and bosst the sub at a frequency that rattles the chect perfectly
if you pitch it up or down to much you can lose the the impact of that sub

good point, it makes me wonder though if people are really producing songs just to be able to exist in a mix with a random mix of other songs, or if producers see their tune as something that should be heard without being blended in amongst tracks.

its silly for people to make up arguments why it MUST be at 140, sad for them to have barriers in mind, dubstep can definitly be pushed up or down in bpm - of course then surely someone will say its not dubstep, but so what, let the masses stick to 140 and let the experimenters come up with some funky new stuff outside this apparent bpm limit.

-- the "drawing the wrong people" comment ruined the initial post, but someone questioning why dubstep seems stuck at 140 to be answered with "worst post ever" seems counter productive to the forum's purposes

Hmm, well, Chimpo has an argument there, but classagraphics has one too :P
However, it all stays the producers choice. If he wants it to be it at 140bpm it's good. If he wants it to be 135 bpm it's good to.
Ass long as it stays around 140 bpm you have something that people will define as dubstep.
A track at 130 bpm still sounds a bit as dubstep, but you feel it's slower, a track at 150 bpm still sounds a bit as dubstep, but you feel it's waay faster.

Keeping it around 140 bpm gives also more place to experimenting with other stuff than only the bpm, and having all the tracks in the same bpm-spectrum defines an electronic genre imo,

perhaps all tunes should have standard 32 bar intros and outros too.
64 bars to the breakdown and another 64 for the 2nd drop. then it would be really easy to mix and we could all scratch our arses and play with filters and effects all night long!
