I became a UK citizen about 4 years ago and i never had to take this or any other test, just had fill out a few documents and pledge my allegiance to the queen in a ceremony. Got my passport about 6 weeks later.

Bit bizarre you had to pledge allegiance to the Queen. Given that more than 50% of indigenous Scotland wouldnt.

Well, she is head of state whether we like it or not.

I imagine 50% of Scotland don't quite realise why they eventually joined the Union for good anyway... Scotland was in a LOT of trouble after they tried to make a colony in Panama (an attempt to destroy the British trade routes - pre-empting the Suez Canal), it failed and they basically bankrupted the whole country... Britain bailed them out in return for sovereignty and a share of Scotland's gold:

And most Englaish dont realise the reason we are still part of the union is because we supply you with cannon fodder and oil money & great politicians . Still, Independence is near.

Oil being the most important reason - weirdly, the Scottish regiments were largely created to keep the Scots happy and instill and idea of patriotism in them - they are invaluable to the British Army, though... Scotland punches well above it's weight in the military!

You underestimate the feeling up here, In my lifetime we will be a independent nation. Alex also mentioned Norway and Greenland but the unioist media siezed on the Iceland thing. There could be fun & games ahed when we dont allow Nukes into Scotland-as we are entiltled to under devolution- Westminster & Holyrood will be on a colission course.

My Grandad was until his death a resident alien in the UK, he was never forced to take any pledge of allegiance to the Queen & he would have told them to f'off if they did. I dont see how forcing people to pledge allegience to a German Queen who isnt the rightful owner of the throne can make people more British, seems like a backward notion. Id rather be a citizen than a subject.

So would I, I'm very much a republican (I was just saying that whilst she is our Head of State, it makes some sense for people wanting citizenship to pledge allegiance to her).

I'm for unity over isolationism, though. United Kingdom and a United Europe. Nationalism is pretty retarded in my view. I don't see why people that call for England to be isolated are considered xenophobic/racist, but Scottish, Welsh and Irish that do the same aren't?
