I meant mixing as in DJing.
And yeah, that was already addressed.

i was going to get ableton but there was a few major flaws i couldnt get past. heres why i chose logic over ableton, even though there are some things about ableton that i really fucking love and wish i had.

not 64 bit (cant utilize my 8gb ram)
bad on cpu
crashes a lot
ableton suite is like 500 bucks, where logic is 200 with even better stock plugs.
GUI seems a bit weird to me, almost cheap looking
was a lot harder for me to use initially than logic was

my Logic crashes all the time as well as randomly muting midi notes, or opening an old project that just sounds completely different lol. miss laying down drum patterns and ideas in a split second in FL studio

logics not too bad for me as far as bugs. i think i have had the midi note lock before though. i've also had logic crash when using time stretch functions. another thing thats annoying is when logic holds a midi note when you tweak a parameter while your holding a key down. only way around this i found is to bypass the instrument then un bypass it.

funny to this day iv still never had a single bug or crash in reason though.

FL is tacky but useable.

Ableton is excellent, but slightly clunky, and you also have to fiddle around with the settings alot to get it up to it's full potential.

Never tried Reason properly.

Logic is pretty much the standard, and it's SO CHEAP! I can't believe Imageline think they can charge people more for FL than Logic, it's ridiculous. If I had a mac i would be on logic so quickly. Gah....

Ive used Pro tools, Logic Pro, Fl studio, Mixcraft and Ableton

Found ableton to be the best of them because of the easy workflow with plugins. Can easily modulate anything easily etc. Just worked for me.

Pro tools is my second, but i dont like it as much for electronic music cos modulating shit in it takes twice as long as ableton. Midi programming is also slow and the lack of computer keyboard for piano sucks when your not on a desk with a keyboard.

FL studio confused the hell out of me lol

Logic is quite good. Similar to Pro tools but with initial better plug-ins.

Mixcraft is cool and very easy to use but kinda budget.

Old mate AVICII uses FL studio and produces some quality sounds so i doubt the program is tacky, you just gotta learn to use it. Same goes with anything.

Hardly ridiculous, you get free lifetime upgrades with FL Studio. There is no upgrade policy now with Logic so paying $200 for each edition will be standard, if there is anymore :6:

Yo Ehbrums,

I'm considering buying Reason 6 today, how difficult do you think it would be to get to grips with if coming from Live? Vague question I know.

When I switched from FL to Reason, my main problem was getting used to the wire-system when you press TAB.

I bought logic back in the day for $700 and a short time later, they discontinued logic on the pc. Shit like that can happen. :)

Started out on reason 2.5,moved to cubase then got logic pro 7.
I'm now on logic pro 9 and would never look back,it has everything in my opinion. It is a bit of a twat for bugs but learn what they are then make sure to avoid them.I can go weeks without crashes or suffer any bugs,it is a really good enviroment to work with.I am eventually going to get into the ableton live thing because it has a few things i want to try out but it will have to be unbelievably good to make me switch but i pretty much doubt it will be.

I must say, I was a Cubase user for a lot of years and I loved it. I saw some Ableton tutorials in youtube that really impressed me, I tried it and... now I'm Ableton all the way and won't get back to cubase anytime soon. Ableton Live racks are extraordinary and basically the reason why I couldn't use any other DAW atm. I miss Cubase arrangement window though.

I have experience with Reason (old versions, I think it was 2.5 too), FL Studio (very short, only in collabs), Cubase (extensive), Live (some).
