Dunno if anyone's still playing (I am!) but tried the Epoch mod recently. While it does take a lot away from classic DayZ it's a really fun experience unto itself. The modular base building in particular is absolutely awesome. Boarding up a house or barn (or building your own base from the ground up) really adds another element to the experience. Not quite as KOS because of this additional endgame content. Can get really creative building incredible structures.

Playing on here atm if anyone was interested:

Dun know about this one. The regular mod was not so well (bugs everywhere) and the KOS mentality of literally everyone made the game feel like a deathmatch game with a survival twinge to it. Playing with friends makes it like a team deathmatch. IMO it was kinda tedious.

One of my best memories was getting to the airfield and meeting a friendly there, finding a couple of good military hardware and rifles. However, I wanted to purposefully kill myself when we found some guy shooting at us, although I didn't know where he was, I knew once I disconnected I'd be lost between servers, we'd be walking around for another half an hour doing almost nothing, and other crap. One thing I didn't like is to progress your character you'd have to walk almost an endless amount running away from the barely life-threatening zombies who didn't pose a single threat as long as you ran. One regular life in DayZ would probably be 70% walking, 10% taking loot and killing zombies, and 20% firefights against other players, unless you managed to hook up with other friends.

Hopefully this would be better than the mod. I have cautiously optimistic hopes for this, although it ran absolutely wank on my computer even though OA ran slightly better.

Decided to wait for the standalone for this to come out, probs gonna wait a little longer now that it is out (maybe beta).

They have already made over $5 million in sales since this has been put up on Steam :o

So what's the verdict on the early access guys? Kinda sucks that it's out now and I don't have my gaming PC or net heh.

Yeah I love it, even though content-wise it's emptier than the mod atm (in terms of available weapons, and no vehicles, etc.) the game mechanics themselves are complex enough to be incredibly rewarding as it stands - far more so than the mod. The whole medical system thus far is amazing, and I believe that it's going to be expanded further to include more diseases, etc. There also seems to be less KOS as it's more fun to hold people up (more useful as well, for IV'ing blood from people, etc.) and there seems to be much more player co-operation.

It's back to being a proper survival game again. They've insisted it's only a bare bones foundation for further development but for any DayZ fan it's totally worth it atm I think. Seeing the game develop was half the fun in the mod, after all.
