Wilfnail & I

Post by wilf » Thu Aug 06, 2009 3:00 pm

OK, so, a first attempt at producing dubstep.. provisionally titled Wilfnail & I (you'll see why) ;)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/hwjpqr
(if the link isn't working let me know and I'll upload it someplace else - sendspace was just the first place that popped into my head)

Far from finished (I haven't actually finished the track yet) and possibly just a collection of ideas.
Would really love some feedback, whether it is just to say you hated it or for some help with how to improve it.
My own thoughts, for what it's worth..

- Not really sure about the intro and how it fits into the song. Am going to try and add some effects and filters to the guitar and bass at the beginning to try and maybe give it a 'sampled' feel, instead of something just knocked up in no time :)
- For the drop and the main part... feel like its missing something, perhaps something in the higher frequencies. Is the bass too much? Maybe.

Anyway, would love some comments!

Just posted a new one on my Soundcloud, it's called "Cold". Structure is finished, haven't mixed it too much yet. I'm still not 100% sold on the kick yet... please listen and review, thanks!

nice one. all the elements (structurally) fit nicely together.

I would say the kicks fine, but I'm suffering through a sinus infection and I can't hear for sh!t, so I can't give my thoughts on the mix. (plus I'm a newb here, you take one look at that date joined and any thoughts I might have go out the window :) )

but I wanted to say I enjoyed it.

Awesome man, really great flow and I love the bass kicking in. I also love how you tuned every note to match the others, they are like really perfect imo.
Great track.

The bass is OK, the song is good. Some more work on the bass like make the sound thicker. I can't really hear a subbass in the song maybe that's what is missing.

Remastered my own track , not sure if it's finished or not. Maybe make it abit longer?

first track i put here..

Post by trike12 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 6:13 pm

chunky synth tune, would really like to hear what i could do better and if theres any technical mistakes. (theres no buildups yet so you dont have to mention that ;)) also i would like to know if anyone has got a solution to this problem: Each time the drums start rolling, the first kick and the first snare is extremely loud, then it goes down to normal, its definately a compression problem cause when i switch of my compressors it doesnt do it.. Ive used the Waves V-comp stereo compressor.

track here: http://soundcloud.com/triky12/preview-9

Thanks in advance ;)

Fair play, quite liked that. Love my dark classical music and reminds me of that. No engineer myself, but that percussion instrument that kicks in on the 2nd drop either needs EQing or being louder to kick through.

cool tune man, I'm not usually a fan of tunes that use a lot of wobble but I was diggin' yours. couple of things I noticed - the wobble went off time during a couple places in the tune, it could also be turned down a tad in my opinion, maybe 2 or 3 dB. the drums could use some spicing up too as well, a nice fat verb on the snare would sound good. other than that, cool tune man, really good flow.

thanks for the feedback. I know what you mean bout the bass, very sketchy at min. drums need sorting, had more of a slow dubstep beat going then decided to try them a bit pacier. think ill redo the drums.
cheers anyway
