analogue synths Joker uses?

Post by Elkie » Sun Aug 09, 2009 6:12 pm

so i saw the post your setup thread in the main thread, and noticed jokers collection of analogue gear...

was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of synths any of those are?

im not looking to rip joker off or anything (not that id even be capable haha), just dont really know anything about the analogue side of things (or the software side for that matter), im just interested as to how he gets that hip hoppy kind of sound that seems so unique to him?

also, does anyone know of any software emulations of any of these synths?

again, this isnt so much a how do i copy that sound thread, im just interested in trying to incorporate a bit of that kind of sound into my own sub-par productions?

thanks guys

I remember him saying he uses a Mac Pro, which I didn't see in the pic. Also, I got confused because the search function doesn't show quotes. I'm probably wrong though.

 i had to double check myself after you said that!

so anyone got any other input on this kind of sound? other kind of synths with that characteristic whiney sound, any way i can emulate it with software or any emulations of synths joker uses?

also, am i right in calling them analogue? i did a quick google and saw that the dx 27 is an fm synth... is this a type of ananlogue synth, or is this something entirely separate?

thanks for your help guys!

no, FM synthesis is not the same as analogue - it's a lot more complex, a bit of an 80s thing, and often makes metallic, ringy, bright kind of sounds.

I'm pretty sure joker uses a juno 106 and roland sh101 for whiney analogue leads a fair bit tho :)

thanks for those links Yanski, proper useful, nice one!

so the best way to go about emulating this sound would be through a mini moog emulator? apart from the original synths themselves of course, but i had a look on ebay and they are a lot more expensive than i expected :( haha

i thought i saw a pic of joker with some emu modules (mo'phatt, etc) a while back...

definitely see a muse vst player in the rack--- thought that was pc only but who knows, maybe he's on some dual-setup biz.

The Andromeda A6 on the desk is full analogue, and sexy as fuck. It can easily emulate the moog and worm synth very well especially with it's analogue filters and portamento. It makes some disgusting sounds, including very nice pads and leads. Also the one in the rack or whatever tilted on the top left looks like something from macbeth studio systems to me, looks like their X-Series from the knobs.. maybe older version or something? These are also great moog emulators. Nice taste in synths!

yeah i really want an andromeda - all the fun of analogue with midi and no tuning issues/noise/not working properlt B2B falling apart issues... had some old analogues in the past and got rid of em all, juno2, Korg 61m, bass-station, SH101 (wish id kept this tho).

skint tho :(
