one last try

if you downoaded this, can you let me know if it worked for you?

it works great on my computer so i'm going to press on and do another instrument.

but since there's been about 20 downloads of this and no one's talking, i guess no one likes the melodica?

oh well :)

This is dope, thanks!

I've just been playing along with some dub, sounds pretty authentic especially with a bit of reverb and delay.

If (when) I use it in a track i'll let you know.

thanks mate, i'd like that

hooray it works! :D

watch out for my next project, it's going to be a celeste

its kind of like a keyboard that plays a brass xylophone, just a really clear beautiful bell like tone.

also i hope to add velocity sensitivity to the melodica in the next few days so if you want me to PM you when its ready then let me know in this thread

Nice :) Few comments though.

Why don't you put this all in an intrument rack and distribute the .adg file? Then anyone can add it to their current projects just like any other preset. You can also bundle some reverb and delay, but switch them off by default.

Secondly, you should partially loop the sample to give the illusion that it continues forever, then the note length wont be limited.

I know its a first draft so you probably planned to do a lot of that yourself :)

Since I had nothing to do I gave some of my suggestions a go :D

Improvements:
Made notes sustain indefinitely
Stretched samples to cover the full range of notes
Added Filter Delay and Large room style reverb
Added a small pitch envelope the sampler, which give a more 'blown' sound to the instrument (feel free to remove it though, not sure everyone will appreciate it :D)

Download:

To use this, just drop it into your preset library, or create a folder in it for your own presets, and drop it in there. Then open any project you want to use it in and search for 'Melodica' in your library. Voila :D

nice one mate, tips are most appreciated.

few questions:

when you opened it originally, did you install it? (as in, click install ableton live pack)

because my understanding was that this created a preset in the 'sampler' presets section so that it could then be used like any other preset.

or did it not create the preset automatically after installing?

because i created it its hard for me to know what happens when someone else installs it for the first time.

thanks for your improvements, i'm going to take a listen to them now.

Yeah I had to install it, and it created an ableton project folder for me. This is ok, but it means that if I wanted to use the sound, I would have to open the folder of my projects, scroll through them (its huge btw :D) to find the melodica one, and drag it in. With this approach, its already stored in ableton alongside the presets for sampler, or separate if you create a new folder for you're own presets (I did).

I prefer it that way, the library gets its own pane in the side view anyway. Nice work on the sampling though, if you make some changes to the instrument rack, upload and share it so we can all reap the benifits :D

hmm, it's supposed to create a preset in the sampler menu.

the work around would be to open the project folder and click the save button on the sampler, then it would definitely save into the sampler presets.

looks like i'm going to have to RTFM again :)

Sorry, I didn't read that bit properly...

It might create a preset, but it also creates a project. Its probably easier just to put it all in an instrument rack and share that, if I had more time I could have mapped some macro knobs that could automate multiple params.

Either is good, I just prefer to collect presets not projects.

you cant

it has samples

therefore it has to have the samples copied to the library

the easiest and most effective way to do that is by loading the project and dragging it into your library

after you drag it over and it copies, delete the project

Ah, my mistake. I was sure my preset bundled the samples, but in actual fact they were included in the library from installing the live pack. I still recommend using the preset I posted as I made some improvements to the sound.
