Acid Pro 7.0 midi record/playback problem...

Post by toki » Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:36 pm

Right, so I've recently migrated from FL Studio to Acid because I figured out I can do shit much better without faffing about with patterns etc.

BUT anyhow... as of half an hour ago I stumbled upon a right ruddy irritating problem. It goes like this:

I record, via my MIDI keyboard, a sequence of pads. The MIDI track recognizes the signals, it records seemingly fine (all the notes are in there), but as soon as I try and play it back... fuck all! No sound whatsoever, and the track in the mixer shows no sign of life :x.

The strange thing is I recorded my sub riff in the same way and that's doing it's job spot-on-ly.

Anyone any the wiser as to what's going on? Help would be much appreciated as I'd rather not have to revert back to FL.

(by the by, inputs and outputs have been checked, checked twice, and ten more times... all is as should be).

by this you mean your midi is actualy pointing at your vsti?

or you've checked your acid mixer?

MIDI is pointing at the VSTi, yeah. And the mixer is aware of this. It's all fine until recording is finished. Pressing play plays everything BUT what I just recorded. :(

ok so its going to be somthing like arm/solo/listen on the channel itself(to the left where you have the volume/panning)

try solo first, then try the volume dropdown on the channel itself

does your mixer show audio from the vst?

Nope, the mixer's dead on that track. I've tried soloing the track, adjusting volume, muting/unmuting... still to no avail. The one thing I haven't tried is restarting Acid and/or the computer. That's usually a helpful resort, though it shouldn't have to be...

its good to see some other producers using this wonderful program.

i love acid, but at times when it comes to midi it can be somewhat fussy, in fact ive had this exact problem a couple of times. first off, check to see that its simply not a problem with the vst you are using. also, something that works for me when im having this problem is simply soloing the channel you are working with until you are finished recording (i believe someone else mentioned this). be sure to make the channel is armed to record as well, ive seen people overlook this several times, if none of that works, you can always record your midi through another daw bounce it down to audio format and put it back into your acid project. and one other thing, be sure your midi device is plugged in and recognized before even starting acid. hope this helps. cheers.

It really is a good prog. I've dabbled in it every so often for the past few months, but for the past few days I've thrown myself into it and I'm enjoying it. I'm churning out ideas much faster than I did with Fruity.

As for the problem I was having, restarting everything helped. To be honest I think it's my (awful, awful, nasty) computer. Thanks for the help anyway peeps :)

I used it for awhile. Excellent program. Yeah the ideas flow more on that shit...sort of miss it tbh.

I wanna see what version 8 will offer, cuz some of the new features of 7 were like "really....metronome count in? you serious?"

but yeah, never hear of ppl using it on dsf

In any SCS app, you can reset to default by holding down control and shift while opening the program, place a check in "delete all cached application data", then click YES.

This helps if there is some preference cramping your style but cant figure out what it may be.

Was goin to mention restarting everything.. I'm a Long time Acid user here also. yes 7 has some very nice improvements, but I'll wait til 8. I'm still on version 6. I just love the program, because I can run like 45+ tracks with effects & VSTs open and no problems. Now grant it ,this is on an older Pc. Gotta love Acid
