Sine wave = done.

If you want it to cut through better you could distort it slightly so you get some harmonics in there. It shouldn't interfere with the highs at all becuase a single sine wave in the bass register is a solid frequency right at the bottom of the scale.

If you want your bass to sound huge (Mala, early Caspa etc) just turn all the other elements down so the bass in contrast sounds louder.

EDIT: I use Albino3 and nothing else for sub bass. Even if I make mid range basses elsewhere I always cut the sub and use Albino.

I find you can get clean sub on pretty much anything. Just a single osc sine, get the attack/release right and drive it through a limiter.

Can add a bit more character with saw type waves and a low pass.

.. i have albino :) ill give it a shot

... i was always taught that if you push the bass too much you loose the tops and vice versa if you push the tops on a heavy bass you loose the bass ... suppose its all about the right balance

Depends alot on the track as well. You will find the very bass heavy tracks tend to be quite sparse where the more busy tracks tend to not have as much low down weight.

You should never really push sub bass. Just mix the track so it sounds heavy. If I can help it I never compress, limit of FX the pure sub bass. With sub all you're doing is adding frequencies that you feel rather than hear and a pure sine wave has the cleanest frequencies. If you start messing with compression and limiting you can change the wave and make it not sound so clean which isn't a good idea if you're playing tracks on a big system.

I've got in the habit of loading up a deep 808 in Kontakt and tweaking to suit.
Definetly gets the chest rattling.

A nice sawtooth/square mix low pass filtered with a very high resonance can do the trick nicely. (Be careful not to blow ya speakers if you sweep the filter cutoof up with that high resonance...!!!)

As mentioned above, add distortion before the low pass filter so all you have is a sub with more harmonic content/variation than a pure sin/triangle bass.

808 kicks are made by using overdrive distortion/clipping on a sine wave btw... ;) :)

sometimes I compress my sub a bit because the lower frequencies /notes volume is lower than the higher sub notes. this is still a new thing for me though and I'm open to any advice about it :D
