blowing a small fortune on Aphex

Post by laurent__duval » Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:59 am

heard yesterday that for the matter night with aphex and luke vibert, aphex alone is getting paid £23,000! no wonder he plays so infrequently!
i think thats a bit excessive to be honest. luke vibert's loads better anyway.

no real reason for this thread, just thought i'd share that information.

he deserves it. who makes music like him?

thats actually a small amount I have heard from other offers, I have heard that he has been offered disgusting amounts of money, it just depends if he wants to do the show or not, as in if he is in the mood.

Tough one. Definitely Aphex is a god but Luke Vibert is pretty fuckin' equal imo. I'm a fan of both but listen to Luke's music more. Still lest we not forget Mike P (aka U-Ziq) who is creates incredible lush/melodic music too. Its funny tho how Aphex is just leagues ahead of his peers in terms of popularity but then he was and still is a real pioneer.

I prefer Luke and Mike to Richard. Not to take anything away from Richard of course - undoubtedly a living god - but if I was going to put on some tunes by any of those three artists, my preference would be in that order

Compared the £ he gets for TV and film use that's not a lot, but for one night on Traktor it's a fortune!

How much are the tickets? Anyways I honestly don't see myself going because the set he played at that thing in the states mainly wasn't his music so I'm really not interested. IMO for £23k and whatever the tickets are you want some sort of live show even if its midi controller and Abletron. :|

He is overpaid, especially considering all he does is (often half assed) traktor sets on his little laptop, BUT when you consider everything hes achieved in his career and his impact on music as a whole, we can forgive him.

Pop stars make millions afterall and haven't got 1/10th of Richards creativity.

23k is overkill, i know sometimes he has turned up and just basically played a 'noise' set for an hour?

But his name has very much become a product now, if you book aphex twin you are going to sell out the event - no doubt. so if the venue is big enough to fecilitate revenue in the region to cover it then fair enough...... the guy is a legend in most senses. but i still think 23k for a tracktor set is a bit over the top :?
