Best Albums of 2009?

Post by clovework » Wed Sep 09, 2009 3:04 pm

Right now, I can say that really like that Nosaj Thing full-length, though I need a few more spins to get into it...Hud Mo's debut is going to rule, most likely...but other than that, I'm drawing blanks. Who else made a great full-length, or is going to release one later this year?

machine drum - want to 1 2?
keaver & brause - the middle way
tim exile - listening tree
ras g - brotha from anotha planet
wisp - the shimmering hour
prefuse 73 - everything she touched turned ampexian
dorian concept - when planets explode

there are more but thats all i remember off the top of the dome.

the nosaj lp was wack. the best of 09 is either gonna be hudson mohawke's, lorn's, or flying lotus's (thats supposed to come out at the end of 09 right?).

seems strange to claim the best album of the year is a pick of 3 albums that are yet to be released

so far i'm going for daniel savio -dirty bomb (not hiphop, but skweeeeeee)

the prefuse rekid wasn't all that

butter is incredible. definitely 5 stars.

i'd say Harmonic 313 is up there.

also really like the new Architeq album on Tirk "Gold & Green" - proper valve warmth in the production.

most of my friends think the bibio album is up there.

and the strange dreams of paul weezy.

Drift, and to a lesser extent, When Planets Explode, both suffered from a serious case of filler material in my opinion. Still both dope though. Neil Landstrumm's when Bambaataa eats his breakfast is pretty good but I need to give it a few more listens. Zomby's album disappointed me...

Harmonic 313s would probably win for me. But I have a feeling Butter may beat it.

I reckon Teebs' new album is going to be absolutely stunning - some guy ripped a CDR Teebs was supposedly handing out at a show in LA and put it on the net, been listening to it the last few days, and it's just sublime, can't wait for a release with mastering and his absolutely lovely artwork (I'm assuming he's going to use his own artwork).

It's definitely a decent album don't get me wrong, just didn't blow my skirt up.

I haven't checked out that 10", I assumed it would be more of the same, but I'll give it a peep now.

no love for Paul White?

so far:
1. Paul White - The Strange Dreams...
2. Daniel Savio - Dirty Bomb
3. Ras G - Brotha From Another Planet

supposed full lengths from Rustie, Hudmo, Guido and Darkstar look to do some serious damage.
