Well sometimes VIP mixes are released.. at first i thought it had something to do with the artist remixing his own tune, because many artists release original version of the track, then they make their own remix of their own tune and call it VIP mix, and sometimes these VIP's get released, but its not always the original artist that makes the VIP mix, sometimes it's another artist like on DMZ003, Loefah's Twisup was named Twisup VIP when Youngsta and Task were on the buttons..

Variation In Production?

I asked this a while back as I was a bit confused about the whole VIP thing too.

Basically the way I see it.

An artist will do the original of the track, then in order to have something unique they will do a VIP mix of the track that only they and a few select people get. This keeps their stuf fresh while still being able to release the original.

It may be the original artist that does the VIP, it may be another artists that does it.

I presume that if they're consider "too good not to" then they get released.

I basically thought it was to promote sales. :P
Oh, and this was explained on wikipedia: VIP remix, a term in drum and bass which refers to a remix created by the song's original artist, sometimes jokingly referred to as "Virtually Identical Production"

Usually it's when the original artist remixes his own track or when he gets new equipment and such to do so.
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

Bless him, indeed.
A few years back I though VA was an artist; damn that would've been a load of albums/releases to his name. :D

If a tune is really popular, or the producer/remixer likes it a lot, they will make a new version to play out. Also, in the case of tunes that get released.. sometimes people make VIPs of this so that people don't hear the same tune that they already bought over and over. Basically keeping it fresh for the people, and to have something new & exclusive to play out. Usually it's not a full on remix, but a sort of rework..

right yeah i could hardly tell the difference to Bar 9's 'murda sound VIP', it's hardly a 'remix'
