New to dubstep production, first few tunes!

Post by modestep » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:29 pm

Hey guys, i'm new to dubstep production. I've put together my first 4 tunes, which case be seen on my myspace.. or if anyone wants me to upload the MP3 I will do.

I'm looking for advice or direction on the tracks, be honest!

The two new ones are 'Slow Hand' which is a cover of an old Garage track (was originally a country track) which we tried to put on a poppy vocal over a dirty bassline.. to see if it could work!

The second is 'Drug Gateway Theory' which is an atmospheric and dark tune.

You can listen to the tracks here:

Let me know what you think!

The idea is to put together a live band for the tunes. I currently have a drummer, two synth players, a programmer and a DJ ready to get rehearsing.... will be a very exciting project!

Thanks for any feedback,

MODESTEP

Sharing should be no problem, add me to myspace and i'l message some links across.

Those are literally my first tries at doing anything remotely dubstep, so i'm gonna try and get slightly more experimental on the next few!

Yea the band should be so sick. Got a drummer who usually plays metal, so he can do really quick BD breaks. We basically want a ton of energy on stage while attempting to produce live.. should be interesting! I'l keep the forum updated on gigs and stuff :)

Thanks for the comments, really appreciate feedback!

Midrange wobbly things? What's dubstep without wobble... pah.

Fair enough if it's not to your taste though, and yea I see the comparisons to rusko... i'm going to be working on changing the bass a bit!

.. and if you don't like the name... well.. oh well  :t:

not trying to be an asshole honest. theres plenty of good dubstep without wobble a good example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2BEP8E9Q34

ive always loved the idea of a live dubstep band i gotta say, also dnb band with piano, bass and drums, maybe a keyboard with delay and effects on it, or some guitar.

No no, I appreciate the feedback!

I had a listen, it's not really my end of the dubstep.. I prefer the grimier stuff... you know the kind of 'if i'm standing next to a speaker with that blaring out I may poop myself' kind of dubstep :)

Anything specific that needs work? I really want to home in on what my faults are?
