Short answer...no. I'm more bummed about not being able to get the reverb / tape distortion as a VST, personally.
As far as what rivals Thor...there's plenty depending on what you use it for. I'd recommend Vember Audio Surge (my favorite)...the other ones I hear mentioned a lot for tweakability are Audjoo Helix, z3ta+, and Zebra, but I haven't tried them really (apart from Helix, which I liked). Also, everybody here seems to love Massive and Albino (or Predator) for basslines, again I've only just demoed them but would assume they offer just as much tweakability as Thor, if not more.

Re: Can you get the reason synths as vst's
you could access reason in DAWs that utilize the rewire protocol.

i don't mind rewiring. the only thing that bugs me is having to save two separate files.

Re-Wire is your friend. When I do use reason, which is not very often but I do have some great re-fills that I like, I usually just end up recording the audio into my DAW on one of the re-wire audio channels.

I've tried that SubStractor VST, and it's pretty terrible. Used up loads of CPU and the interface had some awful issues with it. I wouldn't recommend it.

The only one I've ever been able to find that comes near to the perfection that is Malstrom is Gr4ainz VST. ---> http://www.sknote.it/download.htm or http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2159.htmlyellowhighlighter wrote:while we're on this. what are some vsts that are similar to the malstrom?
It doesn't llok the same or have the same features, but the granular synthesis engine is pretty cool.
Also, Camel Audio Alchemy has a granular mode. Download and check out the demo from here ---> http://www.camelaudio.com/Alchemy.php

Re: Can you get the reason synths as vst's
i downloaded both versions of Gr4ainz and placed them in my VST folder but for some reason renoise doesn't see them. it also doesn't see the predator demo i downloaded TWICE which was a pain because i had to create a new email.
to the renoise thread!!

@yellowhighlighter; you are using Renoise, right?
The rewire implementation in that is very very well made. Give it a go!
