Re: Share all your audio quality tips here!
eqing and shit of course.
but I tend to use these bootsy plugs...Nasty HF and LF if I feel something needs brightening.
someone advised me something this week, it's a way of brightening the mix without using exciters:
you got two copies of the final mix...one is normal....but the other is more or less completely hi-passed at like 2K or some such.
personally I wouldnt bother with this...but perhaps people are actually using this method.

Yeah this seems like the loong way of just using a high shelf eq. I can see the point with basslines when you can process the highs differently but I can't see too many people doing this.86. wrote:eqing and shit of course.

On the subject of boosting highs, I've started boosting specific frequencies as opposed to raising all of the highs, so sweep through from 10k onwards till you get something you like the sound of then boost by 3/4 db ish.
Re: Share all your audio quality tips here!
Its all relative to the tune your making. One technique might not be good for one track but funking excellent on another. Time and patience

best way to make things clear is to mix subtractively or mix from the bottom up. Want more present highs, duck out a bit before the frequency you want to highlight with an EQ you'll notice an implied brightening.

Be an absolute izan with yr arrangement, 1st and foremost.
Prioritize the elements that own frequency ranges.
Arrangement, then levels, then eq, then dynamics.

If you're using ALOT of processing on certain main elements, bounce those tracks down and work the mix around them - that way you won't fall in the "HOW THE HELL CAN THIS MIX BE SUCH A SWAMPY HELLHOLE WHEN IT'S ONLY 6 TRACKS?"-pit and you won't randomly delete plug-ins and lose your sound.
Also, NEVER adjust the reverb buses during the making of the song, set them once and make sure they're right as the last thing you do and this is even more important when it comes to dubstep because of how atmospheric it is and how reverb tails are always dangerous in terms of muddying up and making your mix sound more busy than it actually is.
Anything that can help you from freaking out when it's time to bounce is gold.
