The earth has curved on its axis once again, harkening the gradual inverse in environmental attributes which become embedded in the sights and sounds of each period of our shared human experience. Near the beginning of this last cycle, the world was introduced to the element known as Clubroot. Like so many things natural, and true in their feeling and intent, the CD release was immediately lauded, and gradually the comparisons moved away from that of ties to contemporaries to that of Its inherit traits and beauty.
To say simply that it has become a cultural phenomenon is falling short somehow. It has been put on the highest peak with regards to icons of electronic music, by individuals and organizations as diverse as that of Aquarius Records in San Francisco (who even had Fenriz of Darkthrone speak its praise in their review of the album) to a glowing review on the Pitchfork website, and the ongoing support of Mary Anne Hobbs, who really started the ball rolling in the first place, with her showcase of his music back in the Spring on her BBC Radio 1 Programme.
As awareness of the release spread via these sources, the endless reviews from all around the world, and via word of mouth, one question seemed to come up, over and over: when will there be a vinyl release? It was as if this piece of sound had become such a part of many people’s soul, that they fervently needed an artifact of the recording, in its most physical form.
And with that, LoDubs presents the first album by Clubroot, in a form to be known as The Directors Cut. In contemplating the vinyl release of this material, in a form known both for a different style of listening, and its utilitarian purposes, many, many discussions occurred. The end result was the works contained on these two 12”s, which simultaneously bare all the traits and characteristics of the originals, but are in addition far more taut, with the structural framework far more exposed. Much like an individual who has changed their lifestyle drastically for the better, the person you know is easily recognizable, but somehow, all the minute changes to their being make for drastically pronounced differences.
In short though, without being so wordy, this is Clubroot, designed for the dancehall.
