12th Nov DUBCASTING w/ Bass Clef @ Passing Clouds

Post by mrwilson » Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:16 pm

@ Passing Clouds, 1 Richmond Road, Dalston. E8 4AA

BASS CLEF (Blank Tapes)
A live set from one of the most exciting performers in the world of bass music. Ralph Cumbers' music attempts to defy generic categorisation. The influence of Dub is clear but glimpses of Soca, Calypso and Jazz, as well as Electronica, Techno and Dubstep, also shine through. His live shows incorporate Bass Clef's weapon of choice, his trusty trombone, pushed through all sorts of effects, as well as cow bells, whistles, and all manner of hand percussion. Truly a show of epic proportions!

About DubCasting

A venue becomes both a musical space and a visual arena exploring the relationship between sound and image in an interactive musical environment.

In this process different layers of exposition and expression are built up, which together create a spectacle engaging the ears, eyes and mind.

DJs, producers, musicians, visual artists, singers, rappers, poets and story tellers all come together, electronic and traditional instruments combine, giving way to a shape shifting innovative show of sound and light.

The musical style of dub is important here. Based on cyclical melodies and fragments of sound, live dub provides a canvas upon which the moving images, musical instruments and voices and other sounds are brought into the musical theme.
