Edit:
Thinking about it now, I should have spelled it karmakaze.

My username came from a appauling tendency in the past to always miss the bus.
If my friends are meeting up they tell me to meet them 10 mins earlier then they are getting there so I get there on time. This worked until I cottoned on to what they where doing.

duke nukem 3d was online???
or whatever console supported it back then?
You could easily play modem > modem or over LAN on PC, yeah. It was all about leaving a note on your parents phone warning people not to pick up the handset otherwise the game would drop out!

Forgotten what the system was called now, but there were even some TCP/IP servers a la Quake World.
Duke Nukem was the poo multiplayer. My mate used to make custom maps in BUILD for us all to play in... Geekorama! He's now working on APB, so perhaps it paid off - http://www.apbgame.com/
