I got a question on twitter about these lists, as someone couldn't find them. Just some background...you can see that this thread started in 2006. Originally, back in those days, I would ask groups of DJ's to give us top ten lists. This went on monthly and then bi monthly for more than a year, and due to the sudden popularity of the sound exploding all around the forum, a lot of these same DJ's felt that they didn't want to give out lists any longer, as tunes were getting signed like mad in 2006-2007. Labels and producers wanted to lock things down and not make information on dubs readily available, so we killed this idea off. Now with 5 years of history behind them, they give you a snapshot of two of the most critical years in the sound and this forum as well. Big up to the old timers that remember, and all that contributed to these! 9400 views and counting~

Its amazing too see how quickly things have changed. Its only been a long 3 years or short 4 years and most heads in the scene now properly wouldn't even know most of those tunes. I'll admit myself a lot of them I haven't even heard before. 3/4 years and we've gone from bassweight to not even knowing what we're listening too any more. It seems like simpler times.

Haha cheers Seckle, this is exactly the period that dubstep took over my life.
I remember most of those tunes still. Times when new Caspa and Rusko releases were still exciting. When JuJu still produced full time fronting the first wave of serious American dubstep, backed by Nick Argon moving to the West Coast and starting the label. When every single DMZ release was outrageous (although that still applies I suppose). When Deep Medi was formed and brought a whole new angle to dubstep. When Milanese was still producing. When the first Dubstep albums started blowing people away (Burial, Skream!, Cyrus/random trio, dubstep allstars etc).

I was in Japan during most of this period playing out with an American friend, one of the Utah heads who'd spent time on the West Coast and part of Roommate's crew (Babylon System). Mostly dubstep. I'd track down the UK releases, whereas he got tracks from the USA, even dubs. Nobody outside of Tokyo and Osaka (where Goth-Trad had started things going) knew dubstep where we played.
About ten people going nuts (or the exact opposite) to new music they had never heard before. Dark rooms, small venues, no profits.

I'm pretty certain that blackdown has played low key on his show before. Have to look on the hard drive for the old rinse shows. there were more than a few burial tunes that were fragments of tunes that eventually became tracks on the first album and first ep. Theres also burial tunes that have been played by nine live that have never come out.
