the latest foriegn beggars album isn't that good

Post by kp mike » Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:03 pm

well imo anyway. their best album I still think is Asylum Speakers

they've gone over the top with the female vocals, sounds too pop now.

i disagree, i think the best tracks on this album are better than the best tracks on the other albums. Couple of clangers but no one's perfect.

Seems to be alot like the commercial "electro" grime sound that's been floating around the charts recently. Beats on this are much better though.

From what I hear they just jump on whatever they see as hot at the moment, ie getting Guilty Simpson, maybe get some Husdon Mohawke beats, some detriot sounding ish sorry it really is horrible.

The only track with anything good on it is the Kashmere track, to be honest Jehst is still saying the same things as on his first album and sounds like someone who just whinges alot and the Beggars MC's when they come on its like listening to the X Factor's Jedward - ie they are ment to do an entertaining show (usually in Euprope where people think a ragga voice is cause for moshing) but not something you would listen to. I made an edit of the track just leaving Kashmere on it and that sounds good - will post on here if u want it.

To be honest it's giving any good UK hiphop artists a bad name - watch as a lot of these wack UK MC's start to jump onto the wonky beats thing - they'll kill it (not in a good way) like they did everything else. Foreign Beggars music like they say themselves is GASH!
Please can we have some new blood and not a bunch of people who have already brought out nuff albums that are nearly always terrible.

I really loved the first two albums by them, some of my favourite songs there. But this new album... I'm well disappointed tbh :(

I can imagine certain people not being into it as its a break from the blueprint styles of the past. I have to say yes they've changed tack for sure, but the climate of the scene is non-existent, which is why most uk rappers of late have mostly given up - its desperate for some as their audience have all grown up and got "real jobs" and are now either into "real music" or just other things in life.

as for them jumping on the so called wonky bandwagon - they tried things with certain producers i won't name but it didnt work - for me they are at their best with dag and producers like ghost town.

i produced one track (no more) from the LP with a beat i made in 2006 and am very happy to see it come to fruition finally.

as for the album - its no asylum speakers, but these guys arent the same people any more - back then it was all squat parties and uk hiphop was selling (just about)

it's about sink or swim for those who wish to make a living from music, and when you're playing 2-300 shows a year and touring non-stop with nothing to show for it, you're going to have to look in the mirror and decide to take it up a level or quit.

i am biased myself as these guys are friends of mine so i can't offer a decent audience opinion, but as someone who likes all kinds of music i have to say it fits in nicely with today's climate and is as valid today as the 1st LP was back then.good luck to em

Why is it the only people saying this is any good are part of the Beggars camp or doing remixs for em, take away the cash and the fact you know them and listen to it like your mate has recorded a new group for you to listen to that you do not know - then you will have the same opinions as everyone else - I don't care about 300 shows a year I care about music.

And as for money I don't think they are short - nearly all UK hiphop headz (especially those with labels) are just rich kids in disguise, pretending to be street - it aint real and don't sound real - sorry!

i'd say the majority of ukhiphop heads are middle class white boys from villages.

respect to 2tall for what he said

whatever i think of their music i think that they're wicked people, they've worked hard and they've got their own style and vibe. one of the problems that's always dogged uk hip hop is people hating on their own - we should be proud that people like this are still out there doin their thing. course they've changed but that's hip hop - if they just did the same thing again everyone would hate on it and say "its' boring". you can't win.

^^ got to agree with this... i didnt really like the 'hit that gash' song at all, but it was different and new, bringing in french rappers who wouldnt otherwise be ehard over here and using a real housey beat... sometimes its hit and miss, but so are all artists.. its that whole thing of "try something new and risk missing, or churn out asylum speaker clones for the next ten years to keep the 'heads' happy"..... and to be fair, when the foreign beggars hit, they hit harder and better than almost anyone in ukhh... seven figure swagger is a beast that wont be topped in a while, i think it probably makes up for the duds 8)

I think there's a certain amount of validity to the negative and positive points in this thread, I really admire the FB's grind, and I get on with them all, plus they have played some really good live shows and promoted other people who have gone on to have careers seperate from the crew like Schlomo, Graz and Synners but I can definitely see how someone could view them as scene jumpers, going with whatever is hot at the time to try and guarantee bookings etc. I know they genuinely like a wide variety of music though.

A lot of people in most genre's of music in this country come from comfortable backgrounds, whether its dubstep, UKHH or indie, I understand that people have an issue with "fronting" though which is fair enough.

If you want to listen to UK hip-hop which is as far from middle class as you can get then listen to guys like Giggs, Dubz, Youngsta, Fix Dot'm and the other Blade.

The Beggars actually do have fans, people who pay to see them, and rate them, true a lot of them are the same people who think Pendulum are good but that's not for me to judge.

New album sounds decent, not entirely my thing, but it hasn't be been my kind of thing since Asylum Speakers.
