FBI can hear your conversations when phone is turned off

Cell phone users, beware. The FBI can listen to everything you say, even when the cell phone is turned off.

A recent court ruling in a case against the Genovese crime family revealed that the FBI has the ability from a remote location to activate a cell phone and turn its microphone into a listening device that transmits to an FBI listening post, a method known as a "roving bug." Experts say the only way to defeat it is to remove the cell phone battery.

i used to work for a reputable comms company and a guy who worked there had a phone that was a listening device

1.you planted it where you wanted it face up because it always looked turned off

2.you rang it and automaticly answered while still looking turned off

3.press the star key to record

safe little gadget but i think highly illegal

this was in the works years ago in the late 70's, way before 9/11 or anything like that. type in "echelon" on wikipedia.

every consumer lazer and ink jet printer has a yellow dot code that get's printed on every page. this code can't be seen by the human eye. it's a way to catch people making forgeries or to catch people doing any other criminal activity via printed page. the yellow dots can tell a forensics person, when the page was printed, what printer was used, including serial number (hp, epson, canon, xerox etc.), and where the ink was purchased.

Or use a chromatic guitar tuner with a tone emitter set to c440.

Still if you're not doing anything wrong you've got nothing to hide.

So you can all rest easy now :D

That's what I figure. After living around CCTV,you know to keep your proverbial nose clean!

But it's still wrong. We should be free to have a private life without worrying about the government misconstruing anything and everything we say or do as a terrorist act.If I am talking to someone(on a cell) about a dubstep show and say "that [insert selector here] blew that shit up!",as paranoid as everyone is these days, chances are they will pull the terrorism card. It's happened a few times already. :x

At least you've got an alias and a getaway vehicle:

Well they can listen to me mumbling shit all day if the want to waste they're time.
Everyone always over reacts to these story's. Like it's going to be used to track everybody in the world. My arse. Don't get me wrong I understand the the arguments about personal liberty and how this new technology might be miss used by an overerly "concerned" govenment but, really, there are for more worrying things going on that should really get you paranoid. For instance. why is the fridge talking to me? And why does every one in the street seem to take a step to the side when they see me walking towards them? And where's superman when you really need him?

I'm off to eat some junk food with my five fat kids. Then i'm gonna watch day time tv and have all my debts consollidated into one managable monthly payment.

if you are innocent you have nothing to fear ... if you trust the government to always do what is right

Why would the government do anything wrong? They're public servants after all let's face it, and it's only their selfless devotion towards righteousness which keeps society as we know it.

I'm quite interested in how the Labour front benches seem to be rammed with lawyers, and how they've managed to double the amount of laws on the statute books since 1997 - they must really be looking out for us, and luckily there seems to be plenty of additional, highly paid work for them - what luck!!

ho ho hoooo!

sounds like a lot of bullshit tho, honestly. and if I was the cia i would definitely let people spread rumours about my superpowerful abilities.

disparaging remarks aside, if i had to pick a governmental policy to be worried about it would probably be something like no-knock warrants, not an elaborate method to steal my pasta recipes.
