digital vinyl system or midi controller

Post by paris » Sat Nov 21, 2009 11:35 am

i want to start doing some bedroom mixes and iv just been asked what i want for my christmas. iv got about 200 pounds to spend and really cant go over that.
my two options were either going the cheap route and getting a hercules dj mp3 e2 which is a steal at 100 pounds and is plug and play. my other option which im really hping is affordable is getting a set of decks and a mixer second hand off ebay and buying the torq control system with their control vinyls for 150 pounds. my only wonder is if i would need an external multichannel soundcard so i can preview through my headphones whilst the other is playing. i know this will be fine through the hercules unit but not sure on the torq. ill be playing through my new macbook. any help would be great.

£200 would get you a set of decent decks 2nd hand if you're lucky.
imo spend the money on a midi controller and sequence your mixes (like me) or use the controller to mix with traktor live.
with a midi controller you'll be able to make beats too...which is fun. more so than djing in your bedroom.

+ yep, you'll need to get a soundcard if you want to be able to cue (listen in headphones) tracks up before you drop them.

don't try and get decks, mixer, vinyl, midi controller, kitchen sink, soundcard, headphones and some needles for £200. you could do it, but they'll all be shit to be honest!

£200 could get you a really nice midi controller and an ok soundcard.
