Not-dubstep that you can mix with dubstep

Post by WatchYourStep » Mon Nov 30, 2009 8:37 pm

This thread is not for dubstep djs, lucky bastards they be! Rather, it is for the rest of us who work at generic pubs, bars, lounges w/ dancefloors, campus bars, etc. who want to "sneak in" the occasional dubstep tune into their sets between the required hip-hop, electro and top-40's, but need a backup plan in case the dancefloor clears!

This is my personal (limited) selection of songs I deem acceptable for mixing back-to-back with dubstep not because they go well with it, but because they are around 140 bpm, have a half-time beat, or can be convincingly sped up / slowed down to 140 with ease:

Artist Song BPM

Datarock Fa-Fa-Fa 135
Lil' Wayne A Milli 152
Britney Spears Freakshow 132
MC Hammer U Can't Touch This 133
Michael Jackson BEAT IT 140
Yeah Yeah Yeahs Heads Will Roll 132
Gorillaz Feel Good Inc. 139
Ciara Oh feat. Ludacris 128
Whigfield Sexy Eyes 131
Whigfield Saturday Night 130
Vengaboys We Like To Party 136
Vengaboys Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom 138
Lil' Wayne & Static Major Lollipop 148
Savage & Soulja Boy Swing 150
Britney Spears 3 135
Quad City DJs Space Jam Theme 132
Busta Rhymes Gimme Some More 138

There you have it. That's my list. I'd love to hear from anybody else on here that has a similar "emergency list", so if that's you, post your list below.

Yeah, southern rap can be slowed down convincingly if it's in the 80-90BPM range (plus if it sounds "screwed" no one complains)

Of course, I'd rather lose a minor body part than play most southern rap.

Collie Budz - Come Around [152, or thereabouts]
The Streets - Let's Push Things Forward [138]

Both bangers to slip into a mix.

Legowelt - Disco Rout [Sven Väth Remix] (138 bmp) : works like a charm
M83 - We Own the Sky (140 bpm) : unfortunately L-Wiz beat everyone to it hehe
Dälek - Desolate Peasents (144 bpm) : highly recomended dark hiphop/noise
