Voxengo GlissEQ vs Fabfilter Pro Q vs PSP Neon

Post by daft cunt » Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:36 pm

I'm looking into buying one of these and I'd like some professional thoughts about them.
How do they compare ?

Not tried Pro-Q (yet).

Also not tried GlissEQ v3, but it was quite literally THE general track eq (for corrections before UAD etc for tone) when I had time to make tunes. Great plugin, full stop. However I never ever liked it for mastering, jst didn't. Perhaps it was the material, but there was a run of things where it just didn't seem to work :?

I use PSP Neon HR when mastering now, excellent plugin, nice handling, and having the linear phase option is nice. I know Pro-Q has that too... but I just don't feel any particular need to move away from Neon tbh. Only thing is (deliberately) incorrect plugin delay reporting in HQ LP mode - in mastering that's not such a problem, but on a track that channel will be so far out of sync it's not even funny

Pro-Q is the newest one of the lot and has probably taken care of a lot of it... but I'm investing in a new analogue eq so I'm saving them pennies :D

In short - you can't really go wrong. In normal minimum phase non-oversampling mode they're all essentially the same thing anyway. So GUI matters!

The price makes a difference as well, GlissEQ is half cheaper and it's discount time at Voxengo's :D

would consider myself more as hobbyist but : :)
The voxengo stuff is realy nice, sounds good, avarage gui and is a bit cheaper. Fabfilter has outstanding guis , great support and some of the best sounding native plugs that are around (pro-c is still by far the best Compressor for me + timeless and volcano of course ).
I dont own any PSP stuff, but tried the vintage warmer sometime ago and it was pretty good. From the specs it seems to have coloering options .The gui of neon looks a bit overburden if you ask me and it need a fucking iLok dingledongle, i think.
Hard descision: i would go with pro-Q if you allrdy own some other plugs and get a price reduction. Its a top of the notch eq with 24 bands. I could send you a 10% discount mail for pro-Q if you pm me, but i think its just for new costumers. Dont forget that you may have to add taxes to the prices. If you want spend less money go for the voxengo or wait till xmas there might be some deals.

heres a demo vid of the fabfilter one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9WdaU6HxzM

Thanks for that and thanks for offering the 10% discount! Much appreciated!
Still didn't try it yet but since they're about the same quality I'll certainly go for the cheaper.
