Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
Very interesting and fair play to them for actually making a statement on it. The only major problem I know of with 8 is getting it to sync with hardware, hence me not buying it yet...
Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
Still use 7 by choice, always wait a year before upgrading when talk of bugs everywhere
Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
Haha if that happened to me I would download a crack lol

Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
I have heard 8.1 is super buggy. Thankfully, I am on 8.05 - generally I don't upgrade until they stick with a bugfix for a while.
That said, I do think it's refreshing for Ableton to be upfront about their activities and why.
@ Drokkr - I wasn't able to sync w/ hardware woth 7.x, I haven't tried on 8, I basically gave up. Ableton seems very fickle with hardware sync-ing. What version are you using? Does it sync for you?

Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
They didn't say Live is wack and I don't think so either, along with many other people.
However, I do think that they got really ambitious this past year and amongst rolling out Live 8, they have been working on software projects with Max/MSP and Serato and hardware projects with Akai and Novation.
I believe that this is what they are referring to, that they have really been sidetracked by other projects when they really should have been focusing on more core issues with the new version of their software. I think that this will be a good thing with them pulling in the reins a bit and focusing their attention to where it should be right now and I think it was cool of them to admit it.
With that said, I have been working simultaneously in 7 and 8 for the past few months. I just installed 8.1 last night so we'll see how that goes. They said something about an upgrade to their library which worries me a bit as I have been having problems with the library since I moved up to 8, but I believe that stems more from me needing to update my concept of organizing projects.
EZ

I'm using 7.02, it will sync fine with my Korg Electribe 95% of the time but not a hope in hell will it sync with my MC 505... someone said it was because of the age of the 505 but I don't know. All I know is, the 505 is gathering dust on top of an old ampcontakt321 wrote:@ Drokkr - I wasn't able to sync w/ hardware woth 7.x, I haven't tried on 8, I basically gave up. Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
people that hate on ableton either dont get it, or are jealous
truly far from a wack program. you guys that are having midi sync issues, have you messed around with the track delay at all?
try dialing in a negative value for the midi track. live will send the midi data to the external device a little earlier than normal, so you'll hear the external device play in time instead of sounding a little sluggish or whatever.
i'm on 8.0.1 and haven't really experienced anything buggy? anyone else using this and if so, what bug issues are you having??

Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
I never encountered a problem with 8. I don't use hardware except for a controller tho. Fine piece of software imo.

Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
@ Drokkr - gotcha!
@Wayoftheworld - It was jitter, which cant be fixed by track delay. I was trying to create midi templates for the MPC2000 and SP1200 swing, but unfortunately, the midi data drifted, by varying amounts, making it totally useless. PS: To my ears, Live's groove templates don't sound quite like the real thing, I haven't actually compared though.

no problems in 8, except for hardware sync through usb now that you guys mention it
the timing on ableton controlling my SP was never correct, i thought it was a hardware problem....maybe not

Re: Ableton admit that Live is wack
just curious from the dubstep producers point of view, is 8 that much of an upgrade over 7? Shit like this makes me feel like I should stick with 7 once I get my hands on a macbook
