Drum samples, Drum vst's, DRUMS!!
Okay so I just recently moved from FL Studio to Ableton Live, instead of Cubase.
Now, since I'm a newb and have been used to the Step Sequencing and tons of drum samples and kits on FL, I'm kinda confused
Where do you guys get your drum samples from?
I also saw NI battery 3, wanted to know if it would be possible, and feasible to program beats without an external controller? (GASP!)
So, for god's sake please help a n00b out, I'm just so lost about what to do for my drums now that's I've moved away from that pitiful step sequencer!!!

Drum samples are alll over the internet. Buy some music production magazines theses also come woth samples.
You can step sequence in ableton using drum racks and prgramming the Midi its much more flexible also.
As for Batery I don't know

youve got options. the ableton drum rack is dope, you can load up kits and play live and record midi. youve got plugin options like battery. you can also just use audio. ive got folders of drum samples and just drag them into an audio channel and place them by hand (you just drop them in the grid similar to the step sequencer). you could also load a hit into the sampler and map it to your keyboard. what verison of ableton are you using?
Re: Drum samples, Drum vst's, DRUMS!!
Hit the tab key in live to bring up the arrangement view, it's pretty much similar to how cubase or logic is. Get some drum/snare/percussion samples, theres plenty around on here and then make your beats out the one hit samples.
Thats how I make my drums but there are plenty of people who also use programs like Battery or kontakt to program their drums, mainy its just personal preference and what works best for you.

How did you program drums in FL? surely you had to have used samples in FL didn't you or were you just using the stock samples that came with FL? Battery3 is close to FL's FPC just better.
You do not need an external controller for battery 3 and any DAW should make use of a piano roll (outside of trackers) just like FL's only not as good
As for me if I'm working in FL then I just take one hit samples and load them into FPC as use that. If i'm in renoise then Battery 3 and do the same thing.
You can also search do a Google search and find tons of drum samples and drum loops.

The MicroTonic VSTi got me in the habit of synthesizing a lot of my own drum sounds, but whenever I'm looking for a one-off hat or snare or something classic and familiar (and not live) I go here:

Re: Drum samples, Drum vst's, DRUMS!!
I, just like you, moved from FL too ableton about 6 months ago, but i still do all my percussion work in Fl and export it/Rewire it. I just think Fl has an edge for drums, I am admitedly very bias but i just love the features and the ease fl offers, I spend a long long time creating drum patterns and samples and just feel much more comfortable doing that on Fl.
That being said I made a tune not so long ago with drums made in ableton and (slightly unrelated) I think that is the beat I am most proud of.
As for samples, There are several sites that allow you to download for free/small donation and there are several sites that offer great CD's and downloads for reasonable prices... Google is your friend!
happy producing.

Programming beats without a controller is no problem in Ableton.
I wouldn't recommend buying Battery - it's more a luxury than a necessity, I'd say. I own it but I typically use Drum Racks in Ableton.
The links posted above should give you most of what you need. If you've a few quid to spend, the Vengeance Essential House packs are worth a look (despite the name). Also, if you're into classic drum machine sounds I'd check out Goldbaby.
