WMC Miami help

Me and frebentos are planning a trip to the wmc in march, we're hoping some stateside fellas can give us some advice/info.

how do the tickets work - is it worth paying full price for a ticket, will there be stuff of interest to see/do or is it just for industry schmoozing? can we buy a pass for just the parties, when does this go on sale and roughly how much does it cost?

does anyone have any info/good websites on accommodation - do most people stay in apartments? what are the best areas to stay in or just as close as poss?

dates - website says tues 23rd to sat 27th, will stuff be going down the weekends before and after because we plan to stay for a while

I love how first timers worry about "tix" and all...WMC is not just 1 or 2 events..it's seriously 100's or parties in the span of 1 week...

look here's what you need to worry about now

tip 1- get there..and lock down a place to stay..NOW....all the parties are in south beach...hotels are not less than $150 a night...if you stay further away than south beach..you'r going to be paying up the ass for cabs..

tip 2- don't worry about "tickets" to anything..unless you wanna go to ultra..which I'd advise to buy your tix early...you will try your hardest to PLAN all the shows you wanna go to..but trust me after 8 times..you won't make them all...just go with the flow..and bring a laptop or have a smartphone..

tip 3- if you're going to "promote" yourself...don't expect much in return..keep in mind there are 1000's of others JUST LIKE YOU (dj's, producers, promoters, etc) all going there w/ cd's in hand and business cards...some advice...just go down there for fun...if you strike up a convo w/ someone who might book you/play you/talk to you later..it's nice to have a card or CD to give them...

that being said...look me up brotha!...dubstep's gonna be huge this year!

few corrections

-NOT ALL the parties are in south beach..but the majority are...I'd advise staying in South Beach..just so you're walking distance from the "action"
-The HOT spot I like to call it..is between 2nd and 21st and Collins and Washington
- don't worry about parties and cover prices...act now and keep up on the shows you wanna go to and try to RSVP for everything, most of the good parties are free or have free drinks...stick to those..and go where your friends are!!

Agreed...FYI..I tried priceline and got $120 rooms @ days inn..right on the beach...(true not the greatest hotel..but who spends time in the hotel?)

next best I saw was 160 a night on the strip

we're not going for promotion, purely for raving purposes

by 'tickets' i meant entrance fee to the conference itself - i've seen that you get a discount to most parties with wmc 'badge' would it be worthwhile paying this to get cheaper/free entry to parties? someone also told us that if you're not attending the conference you can buy a club pass to give you discounts to the parties - is this true?

we were thinking more of an apartment kind of thing rather than a hotel, but yea, being as close as we can is always a priority.

ive been going for 7 years and never go to actual conference... maybe im missing out but i doubt it... if you are awake early enough to go to panel discussions that means you didnt party hard enough the night before lol... id say dont bother with conference badges, they dont really help.... its all about politicing poolside anyways


south beach is def the nicest place to stay BUT its def not true anymore that thats where all the parties are.... last year half the dubstep was downtown..... either way its just a cab ride...

WMC is not about the conference really at all lol. ALL about the hundreds of parties, most of which dont even get announced till month of (and last year it was even all about figuring out where everyone was based on tweets lol). like it was said before, cop your plane & hotels, and bring a bunch of extra $ cause cabs and drinks & covers are gonna be kinda expensive if you roll properly

been 8 times...bought a badge the first year..and haven't since...if that says anything

I will say though, it would appear that the organizers are working more with the clubs/parties/stores to make the badge worthwhile...

I remember in the day..the badge got you poolside to a place no one cool went as well as a few parties I didn't want to go to
got you on the floor with all the new DJ toys..which was cool..
and got you a DJ bag..

however...I guess in the last few years they've applied the feedback they've gotten like mine..and did something about it..so maybe for your first year..it's worth it?

i can tell you right now DO NOT BUY VIP for Ultra Music Festival if you go. it was a complete waste. just get GA tickets! that's all i've got. :p

Like Seckle said, lock your place down asap.

WMC is a plethora of parties that happen around a music conference. Some people go to the classes, WMC events, but the bulk of that period of time are parties around it, show cases and whatnot. Unless you're going to any particular festivals such as Ultra, or plan on attending classes you don't need to buy tickets. Staying in South Beach is also a great idea seeing as to yes it may not be the cheapest, but its rather safe and most parties do happen around that perimeter. And if they don't, they are close by and accessible through public transportation, cabs. My biggest suggestion is, get to know the area.

This will be my 14th or 15th WMC. It's my favorite week of the year. Really looking forward to it!

my advice: Don't forget to load up on vitamins (Airborne) & sleep as much as you need to so you don't go home with the ninja aka WMC flu.
